Every summer or on the hotter days in spring water becomes green and with floating things (idk how its called in english). I dont have right now photo of it looking in mid summer where water is completely green and looks like a swamp. Is there anyway to clean it and why is it happening? After strong rain water becomes nice and clean but again next day same thing happens.. I tried to take out those floating things, but next day its the same.. submitted by /u/VoIkswagen [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi, in the process of building up the pond but seems to have developed a layer just above the gravel. I have tried some off the shelf water clearing solutions but with no luck. Can anyone offer any advice on what this is and how to resolve? Thanks submitted by /u/Tudor85uk [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

First time ponder long time-lurker ? Just whipped up a bog filter from household items - bucket, solar pump - and it's actually working! Excited to see how well it works. Def looking to upgrade the liner to one of the pond liner inserts to make it look a little more clean. Check out the pics of my barrel pond and the bog filter setup. What fish should I stock in my pond?

Hello all, I have a pond about 150'x100' and at least 15 feet deep. I live in a climate with harsh winters. I have stocked it with fathead minnows last year. The 3 dozen I added has now turned into at least a thousand. Every square inch is covered in minnows. I enjoy watching them, but am nervous about overpopulation causing crashes. I would like to add some fish that would slightly reduce the fathead population without devastating it (no bass). I don't fish, I just enjoy looking at many different species of fish. I would even take suggestions for fish that won't eat the fatheads. Thank you ..read more

Help fighting mosquitos.

Hello dear reddit, need help. So I have a pond, which I keep goldfish and some kind of fish that are supposed to be eating mosquitos and its larvae yet there are so much mosquitos around the pond and so many of them enter my house even though I have my doors/windows closed 99% of the time. The pond is filtered, is well kept and has flow/stream of water (waterfall). How could I try to minimize population of mosquitos around my pond and residence? Could one of those anti insect UV lamps help, by setting it little far from the pond? submitted by /u/Affectionate_Phone13 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Frogs in old pond - what do I do?

Hi! Recently moved into a property with neglected landscaping, including a large, broken down pond. It’s mostly empty but has some standing water in the bottom. We planned to redo it this summer back to its former glory but discovered a ton of frogs in it today. I don’t want to hurt them, and would love there to be frogs there after we fix the pond. What do we do? submitted by /u/temmape [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Anyone try using dwarf pennywort to hide the transition from liner to water? Curious to see how it stands up long term.

Evaporation or leak? How to test?

I'm not 100% sure, but I have a feeling that my pond might be leaking. A few weeks ago, a heavy stone (50kg or so) fell into the pond from its perch on the waterfall. It fell about 50cm down and may have slid over the pebbles which cover the bottom and came to a stop about a metre away. The pond has a 1mm epdm liner and medium sized pebbles. I'm a bit worried that the falling stone might have scraped the pebbles against the liner and made a small hole, but I'm not sure. About 3 weeks ago, I filled the pond up to the max and today it seemed to me to have dropped about 7-10cm since then. It has ..read more

Still alot of work to do including the waterfall and plumbing. But it's filled with water!!! Been alot ALOT of work to get to this point. Just letting the liner settle with the water in it before I start cutting back the liner and hiding it. Any critique or advice is much appreciated.
