I'm planning a cross country trip and hoped I could use the 20,000 point bonus earned from the first one-way, plus a 2pt/$1 airbnb purchase, to get a discount on purchasing the return trip.
Additional question regarding this, are you rewarded those 20k bonus points immediately after spending the $1000 or is there a cool down? Do you have to wait till the end of the 3 months? Will I be able to use those points immediately for booking my return trip?

Hello, I've looked through this group but can't find a specific answer for the California Zephyr from west to east.
I am travelling from Emeryville to Washington DC Union Stn (with a stop in Chicago for 4 hours to change lines)
Does the Emeryville station have a check-in luggage option? Is it free? I have read I need to arrive 45 mins before departure for this. Is this information updated/correct as the info is from 2016.
Will a stop in Chicago mean I have to collect there and recheck into the next part of the journey?
What are the options inside the train to keep larger luggage (1 suitcase ..read more

hey! im planning my first trip via amtrak this coming winter. i admittedly don’t know much. my trip will be around 30 hours and i’ve chosen amtrak because it is so much cheaper than flying and there isn’t an airport where im going, so i’ll save a lot of money by not having to rent a car. im a poor college student (aware there is a student discount). the train is 27 empire builder.
so i have crohn’s disease, which causes me to have a ton of digestive issues. depending on how my disease feels like treating me on a given day, i may have to get up to go number 2 every hour and it can be quite vol ..read more

I started to collect the pins associated with the Amtrak routes. Mostly bought from the Amtrak online store. I notice that the online store doesn’t always have all of them. Is there any offline store selling them in the Amtrak station? Maybe major stations? (LA, Chicago?) I did not pay attention to it before because I always arrive “on time” (last minute)
Thanks

I am considering options for a future trip and wanted to take the Southwest Chief from Albuquerque to Los Angeles overnight and catch the Coast Starlight the next morning to head north along the scenic coast. Amtrak let’s you book these as one transaction, so my understanding is that if you miss the connection because of their delay, they will put you on the train the next day. It’s a 1h51m layover in LAX and according to historical data, the Southwest Chief arrives into LAX more delayed than that, more often than not.
For those who have made similar train transfer plans, should I just plan f ..read more

I just graduated college yesterday and was invited to two graduation parties. My school and friends are I'm Massachusetts and I live in NJ so it is a long trip. I am looking at taking the train, because I don't have a car and I don't want to bother my parents with driving. So far round trip is looking like it will cost me around $400. My budget is up to $300. Any help would be great.
