This is a continuation of my series of posts about wristwatches, pocket watches, and other pieces that I am able to save from gold filled scrap. For reference, this piece has already been sold (for 160 USD, which is about 40 or so bucks over gold value). It is a NOS 20yr B&B Royal Pocket watch case with no wear and no monogram. It has the original Crown, Crystal, Bow, Bezel, and springs ..read more

Hello good sirs and madame,
I haven't been doing this for too long, just getting started, but I keep running into obstacles as I navigate through this wonderful world of watches. Let me just say that this site is extremely helpful. It's patrons are kind, sometimes blunt but always willing to lend helpful advice. I am enjoying my journey through the many posts and articles, its amazing!
Now, on to my issue.. I have developed a knack for putting awesome movements into new cases. Sometimes...

Hi,
My co-workers wife inherited a Hamilton 950 1633785 from her grandfather. She wasn't sure the history on the watch, she didn't even know he had it. I ended up buying it, and doing some searching on the internet, her great grandfather became the chief of police in Kenosha, WI in 1922. My question, would the Hamilton records show where the watch was sold to? Thanks for your time ..read more

Here is my preliminary design for the Columbus Pocket Watches. Right now I have only done the ones under 20,000 serial number. There are problems with the Jewel Count and many that are listed have not been 100% checked out.

I was recently at a local auction, the sort of auction where almost anything shows up, including, new stuff, old stuffs, lots of junk and, well, pocket watches. There were several beer flats with each beer flat holding a dozen movements or so. Most movements were Swiss, but there was a Waltham Riverside watch, a keywind, smaller than a 12s (possibly a 10s), with a regulator I had not seen before. It was a Woerd regulator, patented in 1877. You can see an example of this regulator here...

Several years ago I built the on-line search for the Hamilton database. I had thought that only the serial number lookup was left of that project, but today I found that most of the information is there in a slightly different location. If you navigate to https://nawcc.org/index.php/research/company-records you will find the full list of resources. You need to be an NAWCC member to look up watches by serial number and see the digitized ledgers, but quite a bit other data is there...

I acquired a real nice Illinois 163A Type IIB. As I normally do with an fairly rare watch, I verify all the serial numbers. On this watch they were on the – Balance Bridge, Main Plate, Mainspring Barrel and Cover, Train Bridge, and Barrel Bridge. The Balance Wheel did not have the serial number scratched on it.
I have taken all of my 163's and 161's apart as I acquired them and this is the first one I found without the serial number on the balance wheel.
Is this unusual? Does this imply...
