The 15th annual Machismo 12 Hour Endurance Karting Race took over the twists and turns of CalSpeed Karting last weekend, in what was a bittersweet couple of days. The once-around-the-clock contest would mark the final competitive laps ever turned at the Fontana, California facility, with the track closing down permanently once the checkers flew. For the 49 teams and well over 200 drivers in attendance, the fact that it was the last dance at CalSpeed just added to the drive to win. Like all of you drivers and team owners who are looking forward to the 2022 Machismo 12 Hour this weekend, we too have been watching the forecast here at CalSpeed. We understand and sympathize with travel plans and scheduling conflicts, and to that end, wanted to give everyone as much time as possible to adjust plans accordingly. Here we go everyone; aside from the 15th annual Machismo 12 Hour in December, this weekend will host the final competitive laps ever at CalSpeed Karting.  If you are like us -and I think most of you are- that’s a tough pill to swallow. Sunday would see the final race of the Sprint Series season -dubbed the round #9 make-up event- with the championship to be decided on the Classico Counter-Clockwise circuit. After gaining 5 points on his rival the day before, it was still all to play for as Ivan Martinez held just 13 points over Emerson Thieman coming in. Coming into the final Sprint Series weekend of the year, things would look a bit awkward as round #10 would precede the make-up date of round #9 on Sunday, making it an exciting double header weekend. Tecnico would be in place for Saturdays round #10 event, and one of the biggest storylines was who was absent from the event; absences that influenced who had a shot at season-ending hardware. With last months event postponed to this weekend, we will have a double-header weekend to finish out the 2022 Sprint Series season, making for an exciting way to cap of this years championship. Things will be run as they were scheduled, so Saturdays event will be on Tecnico -like it was all week- while Sunday will revert back to Classico CCW for one last time.
