Did you know that from 10th June 2024 it will be compulsory in England to have your cat microchipped? The new law will make it easier to reunite injured, lost or stray cats with their owners and will help to reduce the extent of common feline welfare issues such as abandonment. All cats need to be microchipped by this date, with the only exception being feral cats. Kittens must be microchipped before they reach 20 weeks old thereafter. Contact details are stored, and must be kept current, on a government-approved pet microchipping database to ensure owners are easily traceable should cats nee ..read more

This is a flea larva we took from a cat earlier this week. We were able to watch it wiggle about and raise its head to the lens under our microscope. It must have known we were taking photos! Fleas love the warmer weather that Spring brings, and now is the time that dormant flea eggs from last year are starting to hatch outdoors. Adult fleas will hop onto passing pets for a tasty meal, return back with them and make their home in pet bedding as well as in your carpets and soft furnishings where they will lay lots more eggs that will hatch into this! Fleas can cause a range of problems for our ..read more

The veterinary division of the charity International Cat Care is making some new educational resources for veterinary professionals in conjunction with animal health company CEVA, and is using The West Midlands Cat Clinic as one of their cat friendly clinic filming locations. We are so excited! As well as some of our team appearing in front of the camera, Hamish’s cat made a guest appearance too after spending the morning in his dressing room (our q ..read more

We are delighted that following much evidence generation, zoom meetings, a team survey, a day of face to face team interviews, a site visit and a presentation to panel, our sister practice 387 Vets has been reaccredited as a Platinum Investors in People (IiP) organisation. The accolade is current until March 2027, with annual IiP meetings to ensure we continue to meet our agreed standard. We can’t wait to go out and celebrate this amazing achievement as a team! The IiP framework assesses how well organisations perform at leading, supporting and improving at individual, sub team and whole team ..read more

Today marks the start of our third major building project at 387 Vets since we first opened our doors in November 2007. And we’re delighted to welcome back builder Lee Dakin, together with his son Tom, who has been in charge of all three! Our last project was building our fabulous West Midlands Cat Clinic. This time round we are creating a second sterile theatre and a new dedicated dental operating suite as well as extending our upstairs facilities to create a bigger staffroom, a larger cat ward and more office space. Building work will be carefully managed so that we can continue to deliver o ..read more

Many of you will already have met or spoken with Laura Newell, the newest member of our 387 Vets and West Midlands Cat Clinic reception team. Laura joined us in February, coming directly from the customer care team at a Midlands-based veterinary referral centre. Whilst she enjoyed being the first port of call for attending owners and pets, she really missed her previous first opinion practice experience and in particular, the opportunity to get to know regular clients, to meet people’s pets and to see them on repeat visits as they move through their various life stages. Laura has 12 years’ cu ..read more

This is beautiful Blue who was in for vaccinations recently and decided to check out the retail area in our cat clinic waiting room on his way home! Cats can really benefit from playing with a range of different toys to enable them to enact certain natural behaviours through play. Did you know that there are toys that help satisfy the desire to hunt, that promote calm and wellbeing, that actively encourage cats to paw, chase and play and that can help with feline fitness while feeding? Chat to one of our team when you are next in to find out more, and maybe pick up a little feline treat on yo ..read more

Stunning 11kg Maine Coon Rambo came in to stay with us for the day recently in order to have a cyst removed from the top of his head. The cyst had grown considerably and it was an increasing worry that it could get caught in interaction with other cats or in general day to day activity. We took Rambo into theatre and whilst the cyst was large, it’s base was relatively small so only required two external stitches on removal! Here is Rambo post surgery. What a difference in appearance! We’re delighted to report that his wound has healed brilliantly and he is even more handsome now! The post Ma ..read more

We were super excited to receive a visit from a very familiar face together with a little baby this morning! Our Lead Receptionist Beth gave birth to gorgeous baby Ben back in January and brought him in today to say hello and collect some pet food at the same time. Ben weighed 5lb 12oz on arrival and both mum and baby are doing really well. Needless to say, we had to stop activity on reception for lots of baby cuddles. Please come and see us again soon! This is super cute maine coon kitten Violet who has been in this morning to see Sam for her vaccinations. She was really confident and had great fun exploring the consult room and our cat climbing cubes, and almost managed to jump from the floor to the consult stool, but not quite! It won’t be long before she can! The post Kitten cuteness! appeared first on The West Midlands Cat Clinic ..read more
