You’ve heard of Zoe for humans, where you take a microbiome test to see what’s going on in your gut? Well, you can get them for your dog too, and we were invited to try out Biome9, a new testing kit and personalised supplement programme for dogs. Your dog’s gut health offers a window into their overall wellbeing, and their gut microbiome can reveal valuable insights into their digestive health, nutrient absorption, and general health. This test provides a ‘gut health score’ and personalised dietary recommendations to support your dog’s long-term health. The results can help identify issues wit ..read more

A review of the dog-friendly Bike and Boot hotel in Scarborough
The Paw Post Blog

The Bike and Boot is a hotel for dogs, walkers, and cyclists, as the name suggests, right on the seafront in Scarborough. We decided to check it out on our way to Sunnyside Cottage in Robin Hood’s Bay, our dog-friendly property, after Sal from Woof Wag Walk, another dog blogger, told us about it. The hotel opened in 2020 with a mission to provide the perfect seaside getaway for dog lovers, with pups being welcome everywhere in the hotel. What a find! Because it’s so close to the beach and targeted at outdoorsy folk, they have a bike room, a bike cleaning room, and a dog cleaning room under the ..read more

Did you know there is a National Terrier Day every year on March 27th? As you can imagine I’m a teeny bit excited as the mum of an adorable terrier and I can’t wait to celebrate with Patch. What makes it even more pawsome is that it was created by my friend and fellow pet blogger Michelle Burgess. Michelle runs Scruffy Little Terrier and we met six years ago when I first started this blog. We bonded over our love of terriers – I had Daisy back then and she looked so like Michelle’s terrier Sandy. And we have been crazy terrier lady friends ever since. So for #NationalTerrierDay I spoke to Mic ..read more

Did you know more than ten million dogs living in the UK are struggling to cope when left home alone? Dog trainer Jo Sellers, who runs Pippin Pets, is on a mission to change this and Dog Separation Anxiety Awareness Day is taking place on September 30th. Her mission is to educate pet parents so they can see the signs their dog might be struggling so they can get help, meaning life is less stressful for them and their owners. Animal welfare charity RSPCA says eight out of ten dogs experience stress when home alone, meaning 9.6 million of the nation’s 12 million dogs are affected. Many have pani ..read more

Is having a pet worse for the planet than flying on a private jet?

This week I was asked to stick up for the pets for an interview on the Spectator podcast. Their travel writer, Sean Thomas, said: “If you own a cat or dog while still whining about ‘the environment,’ you are that unpleasant thing: a hypocrite.” He highlighted how Patrick Hansen, the boss of Luxaviation, a private jet firm, had claimed the average private jet customer is responsible for about the same emissions of carbon dioxide as someone who owns three medium-sized dogs. Digging into the data, I found the average dog creates 770kg of CO2 per year and the average cat 310kg, according to Mike B ..read more
