Hopefully I can explain this without sounding nuts, but I noticed yesterday that when I had the wipers on the slowest setting they made a “cadunk” sound. On investigation it happens when the blades go to their starting position. But when the blades are in a medium or high speed setting the noise isn’t there. If I am watching them I can see that on low speed they make an extra movement, like on some cars where the off setting makes them move a further 3mm into like a storage position for when not in use.
