Gnostics should not discount the old testament, the stories of the old testament is older than YHWH.

"And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden." - Genesis 3:8 This verse is actually wrongly translated, it does not say "Lord God", in the Hebrew it is actually "Yahweh Elohim". The old testament is actually telling a very accurate story of the past with divine commandments and information older than Yahweh. submitted by /u/Library_of_Gnosis [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

leontocephaline with a lot of random shit at his feet Hi I was doing a deep dive on wikipedia about Gnosticism (which, side note, I absolutely believe has more merit as a religion than mainstream Christianity) and the demiurge(abraxas, Yaldabaoth, etc) that somehow lead me to the Mithras Mysteries The thing is the roman Mithras mystery cult has a lion headed figure that's of encircled by snakes that could represent a lot of things the roman Cronos and time the Zoroastrian Ariman, but I see no direct link to the demiurge (sometimes depicted as a lion-headed snake) besides their resemblance but ..read more

What is the gnostic understanding of Jesus' death?

I'm a Christian starting to gain some gnostic leanings, and one of the things that always confused me in classic christianity was the reason for Jesus' death. This innocent, good man suffered an awful death because... God was too petty to forgive us our sins and required a blood sacrifice??? Something was fucky there. When I first gained interest in gnosticism, this made more sense to me... Jesus essentially came into 'enemy' territory, the realm of Yaldabaoth, so of course evil forces would try to kill the teacher of the true God. However, I've since found myself beginning to lean more towar ..read more

Hello everyone, just have a quick question. I identify as a bi girl and have just recently become Gnostic. I am a member of the OpenChristian sub on here as well. I just want some Gnostic thoughts about same sex relationships because I personally don’t view them as sinful or bad because I have done my own extensive research on the texts which talk about sex. All your thoughts will be appreciated! I hope you all have a nice day! ? submitted by /u/PopularTennis1223 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I often seem to get the sentiment among self-proclaimed Gnostics that only the apocraphyl books are Gnostic text, while this is obviously not true. submitted by /u/Library_of_Gnosis [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Celebrated April 25th, this day commemorates the birth of the Prophet Mani in Persia around the third century, a prophet who taught a unique 'religion of light' blending Gnostic beliefs with Zoroastrianism and Buddhism. Eventually arrested and martyred by Persian authorities, during the heyday of the Manichaean Church his followers could be found from western Europe to China in the east. If you are God then you are also the Demiurge

Ultimately this illusion/maya (separation from ultimate reality) that you live in is of your own creation, and through self-realization one can come to see past the illusion and enjoy the bliss that is objective reality, the Kingdom of Heaven. In a more general sense, it is true that we often suffer more in our minds than in reality. submitted by /u/INSANEredditACCOUNT [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I ve heard at least a group if Valentinians (can’t recall if they where from the Eastern or Western teachings) that demiurge is not satanic but a confused, tortured soul (lower Sophia perhaps?) who yearns o understand (redeem) his mistake and to know the truth as to why so much evil exists, created by the archons… submitted by /u/Letsbulidhouses [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
