Help choosing engine for swap

I am planning to install a Miata engine into a 1964 Sunbeam Alpine. What is the best engine choice for this? I have it narrowed down to either NA8, NB1 or NB2. Engine compartment is kinda narrow with steering box and idler arm thingy sticking out on boths sides. So if one of these engines is significantly wider than the others, I would want to know that. Also I plan to keep the original gauges, so I don't want to pick a model that uses the Miata instrument panel for anything. Is the VVT engine a can of worms I don't want to open? I know the NA8 will fit and work. But a new engine is a li ..read more

Hello! A year and a half ago I bought a brand new 2022 MX5 Miata. This will be the second time posting here after joining when I bought the car. I am using this thread to log detailed impressions of mods, setups, and whatever installs I do along the way. I've been kart racing since 12 or so, been an instructor for the closed Driveway Austin, as well as partaken in amateur endurance racing here and there in a E46 330ci. Id like to say I'm rather handy behind the wheel of a car. Which leads me to my purpose for this build, to make the perfect "drivers tool" of a car. A car that does everything ..read more

After many years lying dormant and gathering dust behind the shop, I decided to start this project back up. When I say I, it really is my personal pet project. Something I have always wanted to build but made little business sense to devote resources to. The guys here are all a bit skeptical, but otherwise approve since they get to drive it:) It's being built as a full blooded race car but registered for the street. The only race car bit it will lack is the automatic onboard fire system, although we'll carry an extinguisher. Cars and coffee, the odd auto-x or HPDE day, just general hoonery. T ..read more

Part 1. Intro. Mileage:122,181 Last weekend, I took delivery of current SBY. M.net member mattsedona (Frank) was kind enough to select me as its next owner. Frank's "story" is here in his goodbye post: https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=775669 Frank picked me up at the Flagstaff airport on Friday, Oct 13, and we drove to his house in Sedona after a quick stop for Bulgogi (to go). This is one of the photos that Frank sent to me over the past several months. I'm guessing most would say they, like me, could not resist: After a great 24hours with Frank, I headed to my brother's house ..read more

(NA) Alternator Wiring HELP!

I am building a Miata-based kit car (LMR141) Most of the donor parts come from a 1992 NA6. I am using a Microsquirt ECU I am not using the donor car harness - wiring this car from scratch. I have some uncertainties (charitable wording) about the wiring of the alternator and the "not getting any charge" warning light. Relevant schematics attached. On the instrument cluster schematic, it looks like "charge 1.4W" is the warning light that comes on telling you there's no charging going on (like GEN on old American cars). It looks like this warning light is always connected to power, and it come ..read more

Hey all! I am beginning a Locost seven full scratch build. I am planning to use a 2.5 Duratec/MZR motor mated to an NC 5 speed transmission. I want to use the uprights from an NB which means that somewhere between the Transmission output shaft and the outter end of the CV axle, I need to adapt it to earlier generation. I can do this by way of a custom driveshaft to a NB differential as one way, But is there a way to keep the NC diff and adapt some part of the CV axle to mate with the NB upright and 4x100 hub. I know they are differant splines, but do not know if there are swappable parts in ..read more

Hi, I just purchased this 99 Miata and its our new project Miata. My wife and I have a 90 Miata that we co-own, and its the reason we are together. We now have this lifted 99 Miata that is slow, but frankly, its a blast. We plan on just being silly in it. We might do a Gambler 500 in it. Mostly we will problem do the school run. We have 2 girls, so now with 2 Miatas, we can get both kids to school in Miatas. About this car, its a 99 that was purchased in Missouri for $500 from someone because it had a seized engine. A new engine was put in, and the decision to life the car was done so it coul ..read more

Hi new member here with a few questions hoping not to piss off any purists. I want to swap a Ford 5.0 or Chevy 6.0 into an NA Miata with a Monster Miata swap it. Mechanically I know everything I need...I think but I am interested in a body kit that doesn't make it look like a Miata which is a good looking car, but I want people to say "What the Hell is that?". I have seen the Simpson Design that looks similar to the 60's Jags but I am in love with the PistonZero kits but can't seem to find where to buy one. Does anyone know how to get one or another kit that does more of a total transformati ..read more
