It was great to see so many familiar faces, and a few new ones, at our March 12 Heartlands Project update in Allouez Township. We appreciate the thoughtful questions from those in attendance.
During the meeting, The Nature Conservancy provided updates on the development of a local forest governance entity, resources management plan, and forest business plan, all of which have been underway with intensive involvement from subcommittees of community members. Keweenaw Community Foundation is pleased to sponsor a new Nonprofit Education and Networking Event series, featuring training from Grow and Lead.
The first session will be on Tuesday, May 7 at the Keweenaw Community Foundation, 236 Quincy Street in downtown Hancock from 4-5:30 pm. Refreshments will be provided.
The first session topic will cover “All Things Grants,” providing a broad overview of grant writing and management components. This includes finding grants, budgeting, program planning/logic models, grant management, and reporting.

In partnership with the Keweenaw County Sheriff and The Nature Conservancy of Michigan, the Keweenaw Community Foundation continues to support the planning efforts for the future Keweenaw County Emergency Operations Center (KCEOC). The County received a $50,000 planning grant in early 2024 through the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Rural Prosperity. In late 2023 staff at the Keweenaw Community Foundation surveyed our community partners for feedback on our granting process.
We heard lots of positive feedback, but also identified areas of growth. The survey helped us find opportunities for refining our grant process, and we heard a call for additional support for organizations beyond traditional grantmaking.
To address this feedback, we are enhancing the grant process in a few ways. We created a new online grant reporting form to improve efficiency and user experience. We plan to revamp our website's grant application section to include st ..read more

Michigan families and community members are encouraged to attend a Regional Town Hall meeting!
You are invited to a conversation about healthy births, families, and communities. Anyone interested in the health and well-being of Michigan families is welcome to attend.
Hosts for the event are the Regional Perinatal Quality Collaboratives & the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The Keweenaw Community Foundation would like to announce the creation of a new unendowed fund that will benefit the Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds group and its initiatives as they advance their mission in our community.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. The local Kiwanis Club of the Copper Country has started a scholarship fund in that same spirit - to help young community members, with the hope that they in turn will help their community!
Three $500 scholarships will be awarded in 2024.
