About the work: This collection is a meditation on what I learned last year. I took on new challenges in my work. Most failed or I didn’t complete them and I was really hard on myself. I felt unsteady and scattered. My solid ground last year (my personal bedrock) was my family, friends and my health. My daily commitment to exercising gave me the energy to push through the difficult road blocks in my work. Adventures with family and friends kept my heart’s compass pointed in the right direction. And time spent in nature and painting centred my soul. That is why I’m calling this next body of wo ..read more

A lifetime in the making...

I've lived on Vancouver Island my entire 53 years. With The Accession Collection have revisited my favourite memories in these locations. While painting "Adrift" (Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville) I remembered building my first sandcastle from that world-famous silky sand that magically holds the shapes of your wildest imagination. "Wonder" and "Awe" filled me with pride recalling our 9 year old daughter Kaita trekking 20km on her first overnight backpacking hike to Moat Lake in Strathcona Park, our lips stained blue from eating wild alpine blueberries along the way ..read more

In February when I decided to devote myself full-time to my art practice, my friend and framer Peter gifted me the most stunning frame made of weathered reclaimed wood.Peter explained to me why he has a passion for working with reclaimed wood, often referred to as Urban Salvage”… “Urban salvage is the term used to describe lumber from trees cut down in urban areas. In the mid Vancouver Island area, these are trees that have fallen or been cut down because of storms, road construction, new home developments, disease and more.Although there is nothing wrong with this lumber, is is not sold comme ..read more

Pro tips for hanging your art by Kylie M Interiors

It’s my belief that what one does well is what one should do most. And what one doesn’t do well, ask an expert to do. Today’s blog topic was actually part of my GIVEAWAY contest prize (but it’s for all of you to enjoy!) Pro tips for hanging art. We’re going to defer to Kylie at Kylie M Interiors to teach us the best way to hang art in your home. I had Kylie over to my house recently (lucky me, we’re neighbours) and we had a conversation about full proof formulas behind hanging art in your home. If you’re wanting to hang a gallery of art, a giant canvas on a big ass wall; a tiny painting in a q ..read more

Blogging, ugh. I'd rather be painting a big juicy canvas.

I tried adding extra g’s and h’s into the spelling of ugh because of how much I dislike blogging but spell check wouldn’t let me. I have been told that blogging is an essential tool that can help increase my SEO (more eyes on my website) but I REALLY despise writing. I would much prefer to paint, to photograph my paintings, to post on social or an ocean or lakeside walk (re: gathering west coast ref photos for painting). I DO enjoy blogging when I have a Collection release because then I feel like I have something to say. AND I have had MANY people go out of their way to say they love my writi ..read more

Are you having trouble deciding how to purchase art for you home or office? There are SO many factors to consider when deciding what artwork to buy. Let me take the stress and the guess work out of purchasing art... These are the questions I get asked the most before someone invests in my paintings and prints… “How do I know it’s the right piece for me” "What size art will fit this wall?" "What size orientation looks best over my mantle vs couch, bed, dining table, entry, etc?" "Will these colours/style of the art look good with my decor?" If you've had similar questions, please let me ..read more

I am grateful to share this newest collection of original paintings with you…THE SERENITY COLLECTION As per usual, the inspiration behind my work is a reflection of what I am going through in my personal life. I was recently asked by a Follower why I share so much intimate content. I think she was bit shocked by how much I share but I'm so happy she asked because it made me think perhaps more of you would like to know too and I think I have an important motivation. I believe communication and transparency is key to human connection which is SO crucial to our every fibre of being (if we didn't ..read more

A line of gold...

“There’s something like a line of gold thread running through a man’s words when he talks to his daughter, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself.” – John Gregory Brown This may be the most raw and personal blog post yet. It also may be a rambling one for the first 3 paragraphs, but hang in there, I’ll do my best to come full circle (paragraph 4, for those of you that are up to speed) and elaborate on the inspiration behind my next series of paintings. If you haven’t been following along on my c ..read more

ACTION creates DESTINY

My inspiration behind this series is told in the title - Destiny. I was reading an article recently that talked about how fate and destiny are different in the sense of fate being pre-determined and destiny being in your control. Destiny being that which you choose, not that which simply happens to you. Read the article here. This rings so true for me. I have had a gift for art since the day I was born. It’s all I did when I was a kid. That and reading. I have said my entire life that I would pursue my god-given talent but somehow I never put it to the forefront of priorities. Believe me, I h ..read more
