Good morning all, I'm doing a presentation next week and my assigned question concerns whether the intrinsic hierarchy of the AF harms recruitment by perpetuating class divisions. Given I'm only one person with one perspective I wanted to ask people on here so I could get a larger sample size of opinions on the matter from as large a Service cross-section as I could. What are your general thoughts on the concept? Did you consider the hierarchic structure of the MOD before you joined at all? Did you ever think your class or background affected what you could or should apply for? Do you think t ..read more

Hey, I am applying to the CIS accelerated apprenticeship position and was just curious as to the roles and responsibilities of the CIS LH and how it differs from that of a CIS rating position. I have seen some posts about this but it seems like this branch is constantly going through changes in what it does so any info is useful, thanks. submitted by /u/Heigudo [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I attended the Submarine Service look at life virtual Q&A event last night and learned that WS Submariners are streamed either TSM [Tactical] or SMM [Sonar]. I take it all Warfare Specialist submariners have to pass the same medical as you don’t really get a choice where you’re streamed to? My preference would be Tactical instead of Sonar. However I believe Sonar operators need a really acute level of hearing? I’m fully aware my right ear at the higher tone frequencies falls just below the H1 standard. I’m aware of this from a previous application for aircrew. It may end up looking like I ..read more

Hi all, been heavily contemplating becoming a ME or WE via the accelerated apprentice scheme. I can see that you gain a level 3 qualification but there is also an option to work towards a degree? Just wondering if anyone has gotten a degree through this scheme and how it worked out. And also how have you gotten on with finding civilian work after the scheme? submitted by /u/flamic [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
