Whitefish from shore?

Hello all, This is my first posting on the forum but I have been gaining valuable info from here for years and really appreciate it. My question involves catching whitefish from shore on spinning gear during this time of year. I have not found much info on this subject other than an ADN article from a few years ago. Is it not feasible to catch these fish from shore or are they just overshadowed by other species? It doesn't seem like anyone targets them specifically. I really would like to... Fiddle heads!

Been harvesting a few Fiddle heads lately. Decided to give these a try as they are easy to find, identify, and harvest. I find they have a flavor and crunch similar to Asparagus. I'm not a huge Asparagus fan and for me fiddleheads were the same. But, still fun to harvest with a friend and I gifted some to some other friends of mine. I'm sure an Asparagus fan would love them. They have really been popping up here on the Kenai Peninsula. I sautéed these in butter with my homegrown garlic and... Read more ..read more

Surf casting setup

Going to try surf fishing for halibut this year down by Whiskey Gulch. Anyone care to share how you set up your surf cast rods? What size weight gets a good casting distance? I have an 11’ rod and big reel, but would like to hear how you rig yours up. I will be using herring as bait, but anyone have luck with hoochies or big jigs? Thanks all ..read more

I have a lot of ammo I am interestd in selling. I have tried to find suitable comparisons for pricing, but all of the russian 56 grain 223 appears to be out of stock. I found one out of stock listing for this ammo and it was sold out at $0.55 per round. I think I will start off selling this stuff at $0 .40 per round. That is a a $150 savings per 1000 rounds. This ammo has very hard primers and it is recommended that you upgrade your firingpin and main spring to ensure it operates... Read more ..read more

Trading Reds for other seafood?
Alaska Outdoors Forums

about 5 years ago when I was in Soldotna I ended up with boxes and boxes of reds. The packaging/processing place I used (forget the name) let me trade some of my reds for Halibut and even some shrimp. Is this very common for processors to offer? I would love to trade some reds this year for some halibut, or possibly even crab if that's possible. Does anyone know of any processors around Soldotna that may be willing to take my reds off my hands for some other meat? Any input is... Read more ..read more
