Hey guys,
Looking to install an aftermarket oil pressure and water temp gauge in my 01 XJ. Is it as simple as fitting a t-joint and running the wires through the cab? Also what size would the joint have to be?
Cheers ..read more

Something that I haven't done for a while, is check the tightness of the lug nuts on my oem 15" Jeep Steelies. The reason for checking is that I could hear noise from one of the rear wheels. I found a loose nut and tightened it. Then I decided to check the others.
I got to the last lug nut on the front pax side using my Jeep supplied onboard 19mm wheel tool and to my surprise, it would not fit over the nut.
I then checked it with my wheel brace (which lives in my garage) and a 21mm socket was needed for that last lug nut. Great, I thought. That would have been an unnecessary call-out for roa ..read more

Hi guys, Just changed top and bottom control arms and bushings on my '96 xj next week it's all the joints in the steering. Found one of the bushings lose to the point that never even needed to press it out, it virtually fell out. It cant fall out as it is enclosed in the control arm. Was a real pain to change the top and bottom right hand side arms though. Just having a gripe.
Glad I bought that bushing press though, been a god send ..read more

Can the 4.0L be driven while a CHECK ENGINE lamp indicating oxygen sensor has illuminated? I have driven it about 300km already with the lamp switching off between starts. It is not currently illuminating. I have read my 95xj has only one sensor whereas the 96 + has two.
Appears to be running fine and not missing a beat, but is it a bad sensor or indicative of an upstream problem?
I have noticed that for a while, my temp gauge is not going up into the 90s (it used to be at least 80 even downhill), except on hot days and in traffic or stopped at lights, tripping the fan at about 105 degrees ..read more

I recently noticed my XJ was pinging (pre-detonation) quite badly
Spark plugs are recommended Champion 12RYC, about 4yrs old but only about 40k, they are whitish and the ground electrode is eroded out to about .060" from stock .035"
I change them and pinging is reduced, but still present
Italian tuneup further reduces pinging, but it is not altogether gone,
most folk would not notice, but I know burned piston is a thing on XJs
I have always used 91 which is stated ok in Handbook, as is E10
I decide to fill with E10 (94), as it is cheap on that day
Pinging is gone
Continue to use E10, no ..read more

Hey all.
I need help to get to the bottom of something coz it's driving me crazy.
My 95 xj lacks top end power.
I tow a small camper...around 8-900 kg and on the hwy at 100 on a slight incline I'm pretty much flat to the floor. And that just doesn't seem right for a 4.0. Especially since i just rebuilt it.
So. Some history.
Rebuilt the motor. 20 thou over. Bored, New pistons and rings, lifters, timing chain. Head and block planed. Valves reseated etc etc.
Fuel pressure good and holding. New filter. Injectors tested. Pressure reg good.
Newish coil...leads ...cap and distrubutor.
New radiator an ..read more
