MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan lawmakers are advancing a bill to set bike speed limits on Mackinac Island. Supporters say it’s a move that would help ensure safety around the popular tourist destination, especially with the popularization of motorized e-bikes. ST. IGNACE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A U.S. Coast Guard crew saved two people from a disabled boat in Lake Michigan. Station St. Ignace responded to Epoufette Bay in northern Lake Michigan on Wednesday night after receiving a report of a 14-foot row boat in distress with two people onboard. The boat was beset by weather and had broken oars, stranding the occupants in the Great Lake. The crew arrived on scene and rescued the two people. The county’s compensation board recently voted to approve the pay hike over the objection of compensation board chairman Larry Jackson, who called the raise “outlandish.” The county board chair’s salary would rise to $43,400 a year, the vice chair would go up to $34,400, and the rest of the commission would be paid $33,300s.
