New to Ubiquity Unifi. Are USG and Cloud Key still worth it?

Hi there, As the title implies, I'm new to the ubiquity Unifi system. I had some limited experience with it at work in the past, but that's about it. Up until recently, I always used the built-in WiFi from my ISP modem/router for home, and it was fine for my usage (Canadian here, I currently use the Bell Giga Hub). However, my wife and I just bough a new home that is L-shaped, so it makes it very difficult to have good WiFi coverage everywhere with just a single access point. Moreover, we've got a room underneath the garage with concrete walls that is currently just a storage area, but that I ..read more

Deauthed

I am a paying customer of xfinity wifi. But now, I am no longer able to connect from the place I am living at. Everywhere else is ok. From windows, the signal strength and quality say "good", but no internet access. From linux, wpa_supplicant in debug mode says that as soon as it scans it is getting deauthed packets on every channel by every hotspot within my 60-70 meter range. Except for one hotspot- the "free wifi" for where I live. Which used to be free, but recently lowered their "free" speeds to about 5 megabits, and they expect everyone to pay for an upgrade to normal internet. That hots ..read more

Airprint weirdness

Mixed environment, MacOS, Windows, IOS. 2 wireless printers with fixed IPs. Periodically the IOS devices (iPads, iPhones) lose contact with the printers with an Airprint message "No printers found". Meanwhile all other devices can still wirelessly print. Here's the weirdness. If I open a browser on an IOS device and enter the printer's IP and go to the printers internal web page and then close the browser, Airprint will then connect to that printer. I have to do the same thing with the second printer. But any other disconnected device remains disconnected until I do the same browser trick on t ..read more

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-has-started-testing-wi-fi-7-support-in-windows-11/quote:Microsoft has started testing support for Wi-Fi 7 in Windows 11, which offers multi-gigabit speeds and improved throughput, latency, and reliability compared to previous Wi-Fi generations. Introduced last month, Wi-Fi 7 brings notable advancements, particularly with 320 MHz superwide channels exclusive to the 6 GHz spectrum, which boast double the throughput compared to Wi-Fi 6, facilitating multigigabit speeds for Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Furthermore, Multi-Link Operation (MLO) supp ..read more

Need Omnidirectional WAP

I have a couple of Unifi wireless access points. Because of the low ceilings in my upstairs, the beam is too narrow with them being ceiling mounted. I'm looking for an omnidirectional wAP not unlike the Google units that come with Google Fiber. I believe theirs is a mesh. Unfortunately, I don't understand mesh systems well enough yet, and maybe that's what I need, but for my immediate use, a non-directional WAP would solve an immediate issue. What can you recommend that is not Netgear? Thanks ..read more

Looking for a CHEAP wifi router

I'm looking for a CHEAP wifi router that supports both 2.5 & 5 GHZ as well as has a GIGABYTE Internet/WAN port and at least 4 Gigabit ethernet ports. Dual Band is not required. It MUST also support G as well at the same time as N. MIMO would be nice too. Not trying to make the search even more restricted but if it is NETGEAR that's even better as my CM1000 Modem is also. I'd like to avoid any inter-brand incompatibilities and potential unwanted bottlenecks by doing so. I swear I found a couple $35-45 ones at one point but can't seem to find them now. Links if you please ..read more

I have an Ubiquti ER-X router that can be put into either switch or router mode. Recently I was playing around and I connected the ER-X to an Ethernet port on my modem. I then connected the ER-X via Ethernet to my PC. At this point I turned on wifi hotspot on my PC. I was given the option to connect the Ethernet connection to the wifi hotspot. Is this some kind of bridge connection? Anyway I was able to attach all my wifi devices to this wifi hotspot. Basically I guess I'm using my wifi chip in my PC for my wifi in my apartment. Has anybody ever done something like this ? I certainly didn't kn ..read more

Wi-Fi 7 is finally here. After more than a year of development, and with many products using “draft” Wi-Fi 7 standards already on the market, Wi-Fi 7 received its certifcation from the Wi-Fi Alliance on Monday ahead of CES 2024, which makes it the official current version of the ubiquitous wireless networking technology. https://www.pcmag.com/news/wi-fi-7-is-now-official-promising-more-speed-lower-latency ..read more
