Pump conceptual Guidance

Inexperienced engineer here. Say we have a relift pump situation where the intake pipe (36”) sits flat going into the pump sump. The source water drops to the point where the intake pipe is only half full, but still has adequate submergence on the pump. The pump is pushing 6500 gpm out of the discharge pipe. How can I calculate the hydraulics in the intake pipe? Would the 36” be able to supply the 6500 gpm with the source water level at that point? What flow state would the intake pipe be in and would it affect the pump in the sump? submitted by /u/After-Property-2323 [visit reddit] [co ..read more

Box store tubing for lift gate hydraulics?

One of the fluid transfer lines for our lift gate is cracked, resulting in a slow leak and a slow gate. It appears to be 1/4 inch tubing with compression fittings on both ends. We use AW-32 fluid. Can I use some off-the-shelf tubing from a box store, or do I need to track down some specialty oil-resistant tubing? Looks like Lowes carries polyethylene and pvc tubing in that size. Our lift gate cycles around 120 times per week and is mission-critical, so we want to get this repaired over the weekend. submitted by /u/FigMoose [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Power switching from 115v to 230v.

I have a small pump that I'm using to operate a scissor lift that is lifting around 550 lbs. After adding all the weight it isn't quite strong enough to lift everything. In the past we used a much larger pump that isn't an option at the moment. My question is will re-wiring it at 230v give any significant increase in pressure/power output? Thank you submitted by /u/Abbeykats [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Markey Winch Auto Disc Brake

Okay so I want to start by saying that I am not a hydraulics person. I am just trying to do a bit of troubleshooting on our winch while we are offshore so we can speed up the repair process when we get back to the dock. We have a Markey Winch that has an automatic disc brake (spring set hydraulic pressure release). The brake automatically sets when the joystick is in the off position and releases during payout or haul in. We are able to lift a load with the winch (2000lbs) but the load slowly drops when the joystick is in the off position (brake is slipping). I was wondering if anyone had any ..read more

Is there any reputable source that gives information on to when hydraulic systems used in excavators require cooling? Higher capacity sequence valve without drain port?

Hi all i'm looking for a sequence valve with about 250L/min flow capacity, the issue is it can't have a external drain port because of access limitations, it will be used to drive a chain of cylinders with rod feed. https://www.cicrosa.com/index.php/productos/cilindros-hidraulicos/cilindros-hidraulicos-especiales/cilindro-hidraulico-con-alimentacion-por-el-vastago/?lang=en All types i find are only up to 120 L/min, example: https://www.groupmarchesini.com/en/products/sequence-valves-with-primary-pressure-compensation/ Would appreciate some tips or feedback if they even exist. submitted b ..read more

Port identification help

Need help identifying the three ports (2 bottom and 1 side) and if possible, which of the outlets on top are paired. I'm trying to reconfigure the lines. I know this pump controlled a bucket (no longer exists) but the return line was T'd to another implement and a seperate pressure line that ran to the auxiliary pressure port on the back of the tractor(for the other implement). If I can figure out the purpose of each port I should be able to properly reconfigure all the lines for their new purpose. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/backpackface [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
