Hey all 1978 Ariens s16h with a sunstrand 15u set up. I was working with my machine today. Ended up getting hung up on a stump and getting stuck pretty good. I managed to get myself out but as soon as I went to go forward again there was nothing . Doesn't even try to move doesn't make any differnt noises. Reverse is also completely gone. The rear lift cylinder still works fine as kind so I don't think I lost my pump. I changed the check valves in hopes that was it but that didn't work... Forward and reverse are gone ..read more

Kohler won't start

Friend of mine tilled his garden couple of days ago. The 74 Cub Cadet 129 performed well. Went to put it away and it wouldn't start. He did a quick check of things and couldn't find anything wrong. Asked if he could bring it to me to figure out what could be wrong. We had rebuilt the engine couple of years ago and it has always been a hard starter. First thing I cleaned the carb. Not it. Then points change, valve settings, condenser, leak down test, nothing seemed to help. The gen-starter... Kohler won't start ..read more

Possible rack & pinion steering?

While wasting time looking thru Amazon I came across this replacement rack & pinion steering unit for golf carts. I’ve been stewing around for a better steering setup on my old MTD 990 and this thing caught my eye as perhaps being usable. Yes, it would take a lot of adapting in my case and might be too long to even fit. But, has anyone out there tried adapting one of these to any GT? Or has a golf cart they could look at and take a guess at whether it is strong enough? No biggie - I’m just... Possible rack & pinion steering ..read more

Ariens Zero turn

I'm new here! My Brother-in Law has an Ariens EZ 1440 (915004) Zero turn. Before he got it, someone disconnected the seat switch. Today those loose wires fell down in a hole in the frame and destroyed the cooling fan blades on the hydraulic drive. We took the drive carrier out and couldn't get the motor pully off if our lives depended on it. OK, a cut off wheel, a hammer and a small puller and we got the pully off without damaging the hydraulic motor shaft, but now we need a new pully. The... Ariens Zero turn ..read more

HH100 Tecumseh USA Made Carburetor Trouble

My stepdad is having some trouble with the newer USA made carburetor he bought last year on his 10 horse 1967 Craftsman. It ran great last year then we put it away for the winter and now it doesn’t run right, it runs fine then it messes up then it runs fine again then it messes up again. You can’t drive it 30 feet without it messing up either and you have to have the choke out about half way in order for it to run. We put a cap of stabil in the gas tank last year when we put it away with... HH100 Tecumseh USA Made Carburetor Trouble ..read more

K321 points plunger

A debate yesterday was had over whether the length of the points plunger has any effect on the timing of the spark. When I was working on the 310 Mustang skid steer with a K321 the spark seemed a little weak. I checked the length of the rod and found it to be about .010" short. Found another in my stash within spec.(1.550). It started and ran better. Timing an engine inside a skid steer frame is almost impossible. One other discussion was whether the rod should be AL. or steel. I have found... K321 points plunger ..read more

Hydra lock?

Not sure if this would qualify as a hydra lock situation but last week a was asked to look into why a 10 hp B&S Intek wouldn't turn over all the way. Last fall the owner was tilling with his Troybilt Horse, hit a rock and stopped dead. Couldn't get the trans to neutral, so parked it next to the house for the winter. I freed up the trans but the engine wouldn't turn over. The motor ended up in my shop to investigate. After removing the pto cover and cleaning out water I removed the head and... Swash plate question

So I pulled my back up apart today so I could get a seal out without damaging it to significantly so I can go match it up since I can't find any replacements with any numbers I came up with. Anyway on to the question when I took the swash plate out I remembered about the differnce and when I went to make sure I put it back in right I found that it was seemingly identical. This wouldn't be why my forward speed is still less then it used to be would it? I was thinking the differnce was... Swash plate question ..read more
