What to replace during front end rust repair..

My 88 Turbo Coupe has lower strut tower rot. It's pretty bad.  I have a gentleman who is willing to do the work. He said the whole front end has to come out of the car, k member dropped, engine out, whole front clip.  He wants $5000 to do the work. I think I'm going to do it.my question is, while he is in there what parts should I replace while it's apart?  I don't have a huge budget here. Really, I should not even be spending the 5k, but it seems to me that it would be a shame to out it back together with 200k mile wearable parts.   Also any recommendations on the ..read more

1980 COBRA QUESTION

I own two 1980 Turbo Cobras, one I bought new and another from the original owner. They are both in showroom condition, the second Cobra having only 18,000 miles. It is fully optioned and has a C3 automatic transmission. Until I bought this car I thought all Turbo Cobras were 4-speeds. I would like to know how many 2.3L Turbo Cobras were built with the C3 automatic, couldn't have been many. It has an electric fuel pump, a bunch of solenoids and circuits under the passenger seat that monitors ignition, fuel and oil pressures. It also has lower rocker moldings from the factory that I haven't see ..read more

Not sure where to post this, but I figured I would share it.  David Vizard, a pretty smart fella, just uploaded a new video about a 2.3L Turbo head he is working on.  He's using the aluminum Esslinger head, but the video might be useful to some people here.  Pretty cool info about shaping the combustion chamber and porting the head.  He is aiming for 1000HP with it. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op5ZhvFoDkI ..read more

Hello,  Here to learn about performance 2.3T builds.  I'm a long time Ford guy, have owned a 1992 mustang gt for the last 15 years. Been piecing together for a 2.3T build for a ranger street/strip truck for a while.  I had a '96 2.3 Ranger in high school and have always wanted to build a 2.3T ranger.    I already have a good turbo coupe drivetrain, starting with getting that ready while I find the right truck to put it in.  I have a megasquirt in my fox that I'll likely put in the truck as I want to switch the fox to a holley terminator anyways.  I ..read more

I've been in the shadows for long enough now, I have acquired my new project and now it's time to put an action plan together for it. New project is a 1963 Ford Falcon 4 door - potential sleep at some point, but in the mean time I'm looking to build something different, unique and easy to work on. Looking to gather some information on building a reliable and stout engine combination for the 2.3 Lima that I have at the moment. I'm not new to turbo systems at all, just 4cyls. I've built two twin 302's in the past, working knowledge of turbo systems is good to go. See you all around ..read more

Brake lines

Im a ways from home on assignment so I cant see my car. So someone told me if I swap to a 8.8 the brake lines are on the opposite side as a V-8 mustang. Is this true of the explorer rear end also? In addition the 7.5 axles fit into the 8.8 as long as you keep them left and right. As far as the 8.8 with 3:73, will the TKX be ok with the 3:27 first gear instead of the the 3:35 or go to 4:10 and the 2:97 first gear?  Thought guys as the stock 84 trans wont handle any more than a granny shift. Im surprised its lasted this long on my combo to be candid. Well and I know people that have run a ..read more

My car has the current stock bottom end. I am down to choice of bearings. I have a .30 over 2.3 with Crower rods, Carillo pistons, Bo stage 3 head, bo 1.8 cam, Front mount innercooler, shloades gutted and ported, Bob's log, 88 lbd injectors, Snow's Meth injector, 53/55 precision ball bearing turbo, 3" inch turbo elbow, fmic, pimp, 3, tial wastegate. It hat put 359/402 (it blew the waste gate gasket and it made t these numbers @ 32 lbs as it did it on the dyno and I sent it anyway) to the ground before the 3 inch elbow and tial 38 which made a huge difference. Those number were made on a non ..read more
