Western Digital model numbers on hard drive compatibility list, second part critical?

Is the second part of Synology's Western Digital Red Plus compatible drive model numbers important? For instance, the DS1522+ show Western Digital Red Plus model WD101EFBX - 68B0AN0 in the compatibility list. However, I have yet to find any retailer, the big ones, even Western Digital's site to specify the second part, the "68B0AN0". The first part WD101EFBX is all that's listed anywhere. I want to ensure I get the right drives that are compatible to ward off any issues. I may... Read more ..read more

I am considering getting a DS723+, I would like to have 2 18TB disks. Would this work? Seagate IronWolf Pro - 18TB - Harddisk - ST18000NE000 I can not find it on the list on Synologys page. What does it mean if it not compatible? Will it not fit, not work, or not be optimal ..read more

Anyone else having issues with WD Red Pro 20TB drives?

I have a DS1821+ (new) and 7 newish WD RED PRO 20TB drives - WDC WD201KFGX-68BKJN0. At this point, four of them have failed and required a replace/repair. I'm now wondering if this is a compatibility issue, which is what the Synology support rep suggested is most likely. What happens: Everything will be fine, and then suddenly a drive will go critical. No bad sectors, no errors reported in the UI. Smart quick + extended come back fine. But the array degrades (I have SHR2). If I replace... Read more ..read more

Replacement for a HGST Deskstar NAS 4TB 7200RPM?

Hello nice people, I have a Synology DS1513+ in SHR mode and 1 of my 5x HGST Deskstar NAS 4TB 7200RPM SATA III CMR 64MB Cache died after 10 years of use and I'm in the market for a replacement. Those drivers are not 4Kn, so from what I understood I'm limited to buying 512n or 512e drives because a 4Kn will NOT work in that storage pool. I'm considering the options but I'm open to recommendations in the same price range, I'm EU based. New Ultrastar DC HC310 (0B35950 - that part... Read more ..read more

Synology Compatible NVMe Drives

Is this right, that the largest official NVMe sticks sold by Synology are still only 800GB? That's just nuts. I bought that way back in 2021 for my 1821, and it was tediously old and small for that time. It's now just a joke. Their re-labeling 'official drive' gambit has now entered clown world in being 10x behind on capacity. Anyway, I digress. Have any of you found NVMe sticks that are compatible and that you trust to work as cache or as actual pool drives that have greater capacity... Read more ..read more

Migrating from DS213+ to DS224+

I’ve pretty well concluded that direct HDD-migration from the DS213+ to the DS224+ will be impossible because the 213+ is limited to DSM 6.2 and (correct me if I’m mistaken!!) DSM 7.0 cannot be installed on the DS224+. I’m trying to come up with a workaround that will permit me to re-use my current WD red 3Tb drives, which I am assured will work just fine in the DS224+. The ONLY difference between them and the 3Tb WD red pro drives on the synology supported drives list is that they are a... Read more ..read more

I'm pretty sure I know the answer of this question but anyway... I've got a 3 disk volume(SHR) in my NAS. I'd like to make it a 2-disk volume instead. I have to rebuild the entire thing I guess, there's no easy way to do this ..read more
