Hi everyone, I was able to finally recover my WD external drive (model in the subject), where I’m pretty sure I kept lots of important things for me, but unfortunately I haven’t found the power adapter… it seems I kept it somewhere else. so, googling about it found some options which look the same to me, but since I’m not an expert, I’d need help to find the right one so I won’t burn it. Hello everyone, I’m encountering a perplexing issue with my Western Digital My Passport portable hard disk. It’s behaving inconsistently when connected to different laptops. hi, I hope someone can help me. Although the WD Passport is recognized by Windows and I can write on the drive, Acronis True Image does not recognize the device, so from one to the other day I cannot mak backups of my computer to the drive anymore. I have tried to install Acronis again, but it does not work. I also formatted the drive, didn’t work either. What else can I do? I have a Western Digital 6TB Elements Desktop USB 3.0 external hard drive connected to my TV. I have the drive plugged into a Wifi smart plug. Because of health issues I sometimes can’t get out of bed for days. I normally wait until I turn off the TV and wait for it to shut off it’s a USB port which puts the drive into sleep mode to remotely power off the drive… Is it safe to power off the drive (using the smart plug) while the TV is still on? Formatted my WD Elements 1TB hard drive as i had used it for other devices before and plugged it into my laptop, installed all the softwares like WD security and WD discovery. The applications dont even notive a wd device connected and asks for a WD drive to be connected. I know its an authentic WD drive cuz i literally threw away the packaging it came in a few days ago and i can see the logo on the drive and all the serial numbers line up as well. My Passport external drive stopped backing up my files in February 2024. I can instruct it to backup now and it goes through the motions, you can see it preparing for the backup, but then it doesn’t back up the computer. It has always worked in the past. I scanned for virus’s using Norton and no virus was detected. I can manually save a file on the external hard drive, but the backup feature does not work. When I first plug WD My Passport into the USB, I can hear the (Windows 10) sounds any device makes when it connects to my laptop. I can also hear the Passport whirring/buzzing like it is trying to access the data. The drive also shows up under Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Devices and Printers as My Passport 2627. The whirring lasts about 1 minute, then it stops and the Passport icon disappears from Devices and Printers. I’m on Windows 10. I have 2 copies of WD that show up in my directory. Both have the extras and local folder and the autorun.inf and the WD Unlock.exe.
