We were at San Marco's 21st Annual Pet Fest. Earlier this month that vegan Jew on Welfare hit the festival scene with a dizzying array of Vegan 101 offerings and Merch! Our Goal was to reach as many people as we could with educational vegan pamphlets. Initialy we hit some road blocks, but this was to be expected as we were their first vegan booth. In a state that loves thier BBQ like a religion. Ultimately everyone had a great time! I am pictured here. I was so thrilled to be able to share with the public and issue I have been dedicated to for over half my life. When I was a teen I would alw ..read more

Lemon and Sprouts Hors d'oeuvres with Sharp vegan Cheese

The flavors of this recipe blend for a sharp satisfying bite. Serve at your next party, event, or wedding. Who loves small bites more than I do? Maybe no one. But I always get disappointed when than service tray passes by and its laden with shrimp, cheese, and bacon. Luckily my local Chabad house always has several vegan options swirling around at their nicest events. Last week, I made these for one of my fancier shabbats for my usual non-vegan guests. I did not make enough! You might want to double or triple my recipe for a more sizeable dinner. I did have ingredients left over. I simply mad ..read more

Late Plum Cobbler Vegan

End- season plums, baked under a vegan crust warmed with brown sugar. Your guests will never pass on this seasonal find. My friend Linda is currently in the kitchen, demanding to know if our little model ( pictured) is done. So she can eat it. Seriously, this is how well a last minute dessert for Sabbat hustle recipe can go. Before now, I have never witnessed a plum cobbler. A creative plum pie, maybe. By the way we did top these with Kosher whipped topping (also vegan) before consuming. And the single serve style complimented the Shabbat table well. I put one near each plate. Pecans coated in a brown sugar and butter syrup with a hint of vanilla, candied in the oven. In my life and in running this blog, I like to make goals for my self. I know your thinking "Goals, that's a new years thing." But let me tell the rest of the story already. One of my goals is to make a youtube video every week. Some weeks I know just what to do and am excited all week for my Friday video time. Some weeks, like this one, I'm running on empty. This was one of those weeks. Then the inspiration hit, time to make a fall salad. I began to piece vegetable together, throw in some shaved beet ..read more

Made with follow your heart Gouda Slices and mixed with fig balsamic reduction glazed eggplant let this deceptively affordable simple indulgence light up your solo nights. I know how to feed people. Friend bring a boy friend the got with like five minutes before your dinner party. That's ok, there was already room for one more. Grab a dish! Bust I also understand the demands of cooking for one. The recipes make enough for leftover the entire week. With so much emphasis on families, recipe searching can also trigger a case of loneliness, and the why-am-not-good enough's. You are beautiful, and ..read more

A warm biscuit smothered with plant based butter, and topped with warm, fresh peaches. The best part, this is a no sugar added recipe. Wait, what was that trip you went one for, Olivia? It was all to get to Peggy's house. Peggy is my one of my best friends. Peggy is her sister. She is a beautiful woman and a good friend to the Jewish population. Rant Absolutely adores her. She lives in a house on some acreage in Missouri and has a vegetable garden with the most flavorful tomatoes I have ever had. This is her recipe. Straight from the Midwest. We were supposed to do a video on this when I was ..read more

Vegan Vanilla Cookies ala nilla wafer style

I made this recipe to go with Dolly Parton's Favorite Banana Puddin' Cake. Read the recipe, watch the video. I was walking thru the aisles of HEB on a mundane mid week shopping trip (there's an HEB literately right next to where I have 80% of my appointments). And there is was; an illustration of everyone's big haired, big busted Blond. Yes, Yes, Dolly Parton was on a cake mix box. In my supermarket. Hoping, maybe in vain, that this one cake mix was accidentally vegan. AND IT WAS! There was also frosting to go with it. I walked the isles, eager to make my purchase, debating weather I would sa ..read more

Vegan Jewish Chicken-less Noodle Soup

A Jewish style soup made without actual "Chicken" or any animal products. Comforting, Economical, Compassionate. I don't know if any Jewish person could say no to a comforting bowl of homemade Chicken Noodle soup. Unless that person is a vegan. After many flus and turning down offers to make me menudo (a type of Sopa-soup that is common in Mexican communities), I decided to concoct a recipe of my own. The recipe can be prepared two ways. Each is absolute heaven. I think it's the noodles. One way included vegan chicken flavored broth, or Boullion cubes (as a note vegetable better than Boullion ..read more

We invite you to our Holiday Traditions, Meals, and Happiness! Hello all! This season has been a blur of parties, all day cook-a-thons, gift wrapping, gift giving, candles, and of course, eating! I'm exhausted. Instead of pulling out the lighting equipment, and making yet another amazing dish, when my refrigerator is already stuffed to the gills with such things, I am going to give you some entertaining tips of the season. And yes, there will be dog photos. I am very happy and grateful that it all went so well this year. I found a great psychiatrist, and I am able to let the punches slide off ..read more
