Chiang Mai Marathon Chiang Mai, Thailand Larry Hall – December 17, 2023 Imagine starting an international marathon at 3:00 AM on a December morning with the starting line at an ancient city gate, flood lighted, the entrance to a 700 year old walled city, Chiang Mai and running the first 5 miles of the race around the outside of the illuminated old city walls and moat pond. This was my experience in the early morning hours. Running a marathon in December was never high on my priority list as a Fairbanks resident of 27 years. I loved my winters in Alaska. That attitude changed after Jitra, my ..read more

Tecumseh Trail Challenge Paul Greci – 21 October 2023 The Tecumseh Trail Challenge lives up to its name and then some. The event takes place in late October in the hills and steep-sided, forested hollows of Southern Indiana. You can choose from an 8.7 mile fun run, half-marathon, marathon or fifty K. Just coming off an Equinox Marathon finish, I figured I could recover, do a little running, taper, and be good to go for the Tecumseh Marathon a month a later. The course starts on a dirt road at Yellowwood Lake (about ten miles east of the small city of Bloomington) and quickly cuts up a hill o ..read more

Many years ago RCN published a newsletter, before the days of the internet and social media, called Running Briefs. One of the popular features were articles from folks taking part in races far from Fairbanks. RCN would like to revive that feature here on our website. Copies of Running Briefs can be found here:  Running Briefs So now it’s your chance to tell the Fairbanks running community what you’ve been up to and where running has taken you. Many of us travel to places around the world to take part in all types of running events. It would be great to share some of your experiences with ..read more
