Top 15 1 new course record, 3 under 40 to top, 5 under 13 minute downhill, 15 under 60 minutes. Professional runner Allie Mclaughlin etched her name into Mount Marathon history as she took down Emelie Forsberg’s 2015 record of 47:48. Allie’s debut claimed victory with her 47:09 finish. Her uphill mark of 34:17 would have placed her 3rd in the men’s field. Allie also held her own on the downhill, turning over a sub-13 minute; her 12:52 was the 4th fastest amongst women. Allie becomes the 3rd woman to break the 50 min barrier. She recently won the Broken Arrow VK and finished runner-up ..read more

Meg Inokuma led five women under 4-hour finishes and claimed the #2 time in race history for women. Her 3:26:34 is right behind Christy Marvin’s record of 3:26:32. Meg and Christy are the only women to finish under 3:30:00. Meg was fifth overall in a race that saw the men’s record go down. In our opinion, the Crow Pass Crossing and Mat-Peak records are some of the hardest to obtain (what do you think?). Meg is sure moving her way up on many of these all-time lists, giving all of us 40-year-olds hope that we are still here to show the young ones a thing or two! Now for the youngsters. FRBKS MIDNIGHT SUN RUN This 10k is 40 years old! A Solstice tradition, this fun costume race has seen thousands of people lining up to celebrate summer for decades. It’s a uniquely Alaskan race, starting at 10 pm, that takes runners from UAF to Pioneer Park. Spectators can enjoy the show as the course runs through neighborhoods, allowing for a spectator-friendly course. This year, Melanie Nussbaumer finished with a personal best of 38:03. There isn’t a PR list we can find, and published times go back to 2001. We do know that in 1985, Nancy Ditz ran a 34:06. So, it’s safe to say Melanie has rac ..read more

In 2019, friends told Clare Shea that she should enter the lottery for the Eiger Ultra Trail, an ultra race in Switzerland. In 2022, Clare finally got to her 51 km race. It took healing from a broken arm, getting creative with training while the snow lingered, and adding specific activities for Mount Marathon. Luckily, many Alaskans signed up for big races, and Clare was able to share the trails with friends throughout her preparations. Clare’s race was a living postcard, an international dreamscape. The Eiger Trail brings together runners from all over the world, and its website states the t ..read more

AKRFW It was easy to get lost in the data of the Alaska Run for Women. The race is 30 years old and has traditionally raced on a course that started and finished at the Sullivan Arena. This year, the course route moved to a new location, starting and ending on Alumni Drive in the UMed area.  The AKRFW was one of the few races that stats could get a little crazy if someone had the time to do it all. Top course PRs date back decades and age-group records are serious. So that’s what we did. We spent our few free hours going over 30 years of results. We have added a new tab on our website tha ..read more

Bird Ridge Hill Climb Bird Ridge Hill Climb went off, and the competition was STRONG! Bird is the 4th Alaska Grand Prix race; next is Juneau Ridge Race, and on July 4th, Mount Marathon (MMR).  Klaire Rhodes, Meg Inokuma, and Ruby Lindquist put on a show for the first half before Klaire put on a clinic to secure her first Bird Ridge victory. By the halfway(ish) point, Jack’s Bench, the three women were in a tight battle, with Meg leading the charge. Meg looked confident, and it seemed that the win would surely be hers if Klaire and Ruby didn’t make a move.  Klaire, 2022 ..read more
