I’m excited to announce that Taro Health has launched! Taro Health is a new insurance company doing something no company has done before. They are partnering with local Direct Primary Care offices in Maine to bring affordable, accessible primary care to patients, from day ONE. No co-pays, no co-insurance. You can read more about their plans HERE I am accepting Taro Health insurance starting January 1st for existing patients, and hope to expand access for new patients in the near future (we’ve grown quickly over the last year, and I’m doing my best to keep up!). I am currently still on a waiti ..read more

Becoming a small business owner, public speaking was the part that probably terrified me the most. Last night was a big step for me, hosting an incredibly inspirational group of over 40 female business leaders at the Maine Women’s Network October event at Rising Tide Brewery. What I realized is that when you’re talking about some thing that you’re passionate about, it becomes easier. What an incredible night, what an incredible group of women. Thanks Dr. Lisa Parsons DO for co-hosting with me! #mainewomensnetwork #womeninbusiness #womensupportingwomen The post Great Event at Rising Tide, Than ..read more

Exciting news for primary care in Maine! I wanted you to be among the first to know about an exciting expansion of Direct Primary Care in Maine. In the coming weeks, you may see some media announcements and internet advertisements from a company I and other DPCs have partnered with called Taro Health. Taro Health is offering a first-in-the-nation health insurance plan which allows people to buy a normal ACA-compliant insurance coverage which will INCLUDE a membership at a DPC practice. Taro Health is a partner, but DPC is still 100% independent and will always be available to those with or wi ..read more

Heading into Fall: Rocky Waters Ahead
Grace Health Blog

I took this photo during an afternoon adventure with my kids at Two Lights State Park, just before the start of school. This was one of the most beautiful, magical summers I can remember. I cherish this time with my kiddos, who are growing up so quickly! However, as we run head-long into fall, this picture also seemed most appropriate for a post titled “Rocky Waters”. For that is exactly where we are at, folks. As disheartening as it is for me, as a healthcare provider, this pandemic isn’t yet over. As my children head into school, some of their classmates, and patients of all ages, are headi ..read more

Finding Balance (TLDR: I’m Starting A Waitlist)

Some of my fellow parent-friends have a phrase, “TLDR”, that pretty much sums up our modern world. TLDR = Too Long, Didn’t Read. I laugh every time I hear it, because it’s ridiculous…and humbling-ly appropriate, sometimes. So, for those of you with limited time, I’ll make this brief: I’ve started a WAITLIST, and am closing to new members (except for family of current members) until the Fall. The explosion in interest in Direct Primary Care over the last few months has been incredible! I’m so in awe of the awesome people I have a chance to work with. It’s also felt a little like trying to drin ..read more

Radical Primary Care Will Save Healthcare
Grace Health Blog

Here’s a radical concept. What if we cut the cost of primary care by 80%? What if we slashed avoidable ER visits and hospitalizations by 50%, by giving people direct access to their primary care doctor? I mean DIRECT access, not just a phone tree that gets you an appointment three weeks out? What if you could have hour-long visits with your primary care doctor and actually get to the root of your medical concerns? What if medical debt disappeared, because basic healthcare became affordable again? A world where you have access to your doctor, time with them, and are understood as a whole perso ..read more

Dr. Norman reflects on the public health costs of racism, and opportunities for change A few years ago I was trying to find my husband in a sea of other runners competing in our local Beach to Beacon road race. I had a clear memory of seeing him wearing his usual bright orange track shirt at the start line. I could picture exactly how he looked, stretching his legs along the fence, waiting for his pod of runners to be released, the early morning light coming in through the trees and backlighting his golden-brown hair. However, when he came around the bend, I very nearly missed seeing him, bec ..read more

A Page In History, A Moment to Reflect

Dr. Norman remembers the courage of Ruby Bridges as she reflects on the riots at the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021. As the images of this past week unfolded, many of us struggled to process the fear, uncertainty, and disbelief. Our family, like many of yours, sought ways to reconnect with each other, “Are you OK?”, despite the distances of time and space which have already turned our lives upside down. Within this uncertainty, it feels important to reaffirm our core values. The best parts of ourselves, what we aspire to be, what we aspire to create in the world. “Hate cannot drive out Hate ..read more

This is the time of year I almost always fall off my meal-time groove. It always seems that, no matter how carefully I plan, everything comes down to the last few weeks in December. Below are a few quick options that get me through those days when I just need something easy, no dishes. First off: Let’s de-bunk superstitions about frozen meals. Frozen meals can be REALLY healthy! The trick is the same as with anything else: knowing what’s actually in what you’re eating. Below are a few options which I love, which can fit every budget: $$$ Topset Meals : A local southern Maine chef makes you be ..read more
