Shooting Film for the First Time in Decades

I was recently gifted something I haven’t owned or used in years, a film-based camera. Specifically, a Canon AT-1, manufactured in 1977. This particular camera had been in storage for more than 30 years, as the previous owner had placed it into its case and into a closet, where it had stayed since some point in the 1980s. After some discussion between friends at the Blackstar Volkswagen Campout, the camera and its accompanying equipment (lenses, flash and carrying case) were presented to me. I have to thank Eric G, Jeff G, and Jon W who was the original owner. I did some research on this mode ..read more

Why Attend the Same Event for Over 20 Years?

This story first appeared in Kingman Motor News. Having just returned from the annual gathering of vintage Volkswagen Buses known as Buses By the Bridge, the trip got me thinking about my own history with the event. I’ve been attending BBB for over 20 years and have seen it grow well beyond what I thought was possible. But why keep going to the same event over and over again? Well, let’s see… Let’s rewind to 2003. I had saved up a modest amount of cash in hopes of buying a VW bus. After seeing an online ad for a Westfalia Camper from a private seller in Kingman, Arizona, I made an appointmen ..read more

Car shows are more than just a display of amazing automobiles; they're a community gathering where automotive enthusiasts converge to celebrate their passion. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a first-timer, understanding the unspoken rules of car show etiquette is crucial for a harmonious and enjoyable experience. Respect the Space: Car shows are a showcase of craftsmanship, and each vehicle is a piece of art. It's paramount to respect the personal space around each car. Avoid leaning on vehicles, touching them, or allowing children or pets to get too close. Admire from a distance, and ..read more

How To Catch Up When You're Behind
Eric Arnold Photography Blog
by Eric Arnold

Right now, I'm behind...by a lot, and I mean a LOT! I have photos from weeks ago which I haven't had time to touch yet. They're saved, and they're backed up, but they're just sitting there, patiently waiting to be tended to. To top it off, I'm headed directly into another three day event, and that's going to back me up even more.  Still, hope is not lost.  How do I work through a situation like this? Let me break it down. 1. Step back, take a breath. Meditate if that's your thing. At least take some deep breaths. Clear your head. 2. Make a list. When I'm behind, I HAVE to write down ..read more

My second line of jigsaw puzzles are here! They actually arrived three weeks earlier than expected.  That's great for all the folks who pre-ordered, because those are out in the mail already! For everyone else, you can order your puzzle (or puzzles) right now by visiting my STORE and going through the regular process.  These are 1,000 pieces, and measure 20x28 when you put them together. That's a pretty big size! They are factory boxed and sealed, ready to go. I expect to ship every two to three days (because really who wants to go to the Post Office every day) unless I'm out of ..read more

I Hate All of My Photos

That's not a typo. Even the shots I love, I hate. Let me explain, or at least try to. In today's landscape of instant gratification, social media, likes & loves, it's too easy to get a false sense of security in your art. Comments, Likes, Loves...these are all great things. They show folks are engaged enough with my photos to interact, and I love interacting with all of you.  I must be posting good stuff, right?  This is how it goes from my side. By the time a photo makes its way to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or my website, I've already seen it at least four times (likely more ..read more
