WIFV Programming Coordinator, Sofia Sandoval will be portraying Hermia in this production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Silver Spring Stage, running from April 12 to April 28th. This marks the first Shakespeare adaptation at the Silver Spring Stage in more than 10 years. Adapted and directed by Emma Hooks, this production examines the relationship of contemporary audiences with Shakespeare’s classics by contrasting the rigid social norms of the Renaissance with modern-day attitudes about love and friendship. Composer, singer, songwriter Suzanne Brindamour appeared recently on the WUSA9 series “Great Day Washington.” She performed a song from her album “Shaded by Trees,” which is a finalist for a WAMMIE (Washington Area Music Awards).   On the show floor, the group kicked off the show with a packed Tech Talk on Innovations in Virtual Production, with leaders from Fox Sports, Amazon Web Services and Quarter Twenty. These women shared their wins, challenges and strategies for building film and broadcast content in new remote and virtual workflows. Filmmaker Cintia Cabib was recently at Henninger Media working with colorist Lauren Meschter on her film BIRD WALK. It focuses on the birds and birders at RedGate Park in Rockville, MD as well as the grassroots effort to transform the defunct golf course into a public park. Look for this film to premiere in 2024! Ariel Baska won the ReelAbilities Crip Script Pitch, a competitive pitching event that was held in New York City last week. Their project, MONSTROUS ME, received a special prize from Sunny Side of the Doc that includes participation in that festival’s pitch market in La Rochelle, France. MONSTROUS ME has also just been awarded a grant from Virginia Humanities to support a series of exhibits, workshops, and the documentary film that explore the lack of disabilities representation in media. Erica Ginsberg has been awarded a grant to support the Creative Resilience project. The Artist Fellowship funding from the Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council will support creating an audiobook of her book Creative Resilience: Reclaiming Your Power as an Artist which explores how artists across disciplines can navigate the ups and downs of the creative process. The Ocean City Film Festival, which ran from March 7-10, screened 3 of their films: IMAGINARY FRIENDS, STAR TIME and the documentary ENCORE LEARNING, 20 YEARS AND GROWING. All 3 films were well received with ENCORE LEARNING winning a Best of Festival Award.
