About to head off tonight for another European summer, with a very similar plan to last year. This time though with sister and brother-in-law which was the original plan but didn't work last year. This year we are opting to fly Qatar to Madrid via Doha as Emirates haven't yet recommenced their flights from Adelaide. I did later also read a couple of reports that Doha is a nicer airport than Dubai (as airports go ..read more

France. Speeding fines

To add to the major disappointment from the Courchevel trip, I got 2 speeding fines while driving back to Italy. Anyone has any experience with french authorities? They obviously got my address from the rental place, but they also obviously could not charge them, which would make them, in turn, charge my credit card, which they so far have not. I rented in Italy. My car was also scratched in the Courchevel secure paid car park, for which rental joint charged me 1000 euros. I tell you, I... Read more ..read more

Up in Norway for 6 weeks for a bit of XC track, hut to hut and mountain touring. Starting with some shake down track stuff based in Sjusjoen above Lillehammer at around 800 - 1000 metres. The Birky is on this weekend so the tracks are nicely groomed. Good snow with easy turning off the tracks with 2” of fresh on a firm base. A cruisy 24 km of track today. Love how most stuff ( e.g supermarkets) are shut on Sundays. Hopefully more updates as we journey ..read more

Nasty one today. Group of 17 including 4 guides. 180m x 80m wet slide. Risk 2, south facing. Snow in the Zillertal was horrid today. Very warm day after a 25cm dump - so sticky the skis would barely glide. Lots of spontaneous releases all over the mountain exposing the yellow from the sorroco 2 weeks ago. Is there a reason NOT to choose Meribel (3 Vallees) for family skiing?

We're about to lock in plans for Europe 2024-25. Mainly a touristy London>Paris>Rome>Venice trip ending with a week (10 days??) of skiing in mid-late Jan 2025. So the skiing is obviously important but not the only purpose of the trip. Family of 4 including tween/teen kids (11 and 14). We have Epic passes, so the 3 Vallees 7-days free skiing is a compelling offer. After much stalking of previous threads (thanks especially to @Lady Penelope and @elSpike) I think I'm settled on... Said I wouldn't, but I've already started clogging up the trip planning thread so I'll just dump stuff here instead. Just can't deal with doing a full on BnW trip report this time round bit I do love dumping a few pictures and saying a few words so I'll do it here - take it or leave it! Qatar airways Melbourne to Geneva. Pretty good for economy-lubbers like us. Nearly bought a A$21 Oreo milkshake for daughter at Doha airport but pulled out at the last minute when I did a quick mental... Read more ..read more
