A new single, a debut album, a UK/EU headline tour and festival appearances – 2024 is a huge year for Black Country duo Big Special. Big Special – A visceral assault on softer dispositions; a collision of skullcrunching guitars, head-wobbling synths and face-belting drums. Couple this with darkly humorous observations of personal mental struggle in a time of social depression and anxiety, and you have a must-see duo. Debut album Postindustrial Hometown Blues is out on 10 May and you can watch the video now for lead single Dust Off / Start Again. The band’s new music has arrived in the wak ..read more

The Hives I first heard of The Hives when I was nine years old, at the height of “Walk Idiot Walk” sweep ..read more

Pop Girl Excellence: Caity Baser Raises the Roof at the O2 Academy

One of the freshest pop girls on the scene to soar up the UK ranks is back in town. Caity Baser recently released her second album “Still Learning” and came to Leeds on 26 March, only months since her last visit, to give fans their much-demanded fix of her attitude-infused uptempo bops. Backed with the roar of the giddy crowd and charisma-filling buckets, the 21-year-old made an entrance no less impressive than fans would have expected: bursting through a giant learner plate with a baseball bat, an untamed, infectious grin on her face. Caity is simply too fun to ignore. Clad in frills and fi ..read more

The Leeds shoegaze band released their debut album ‘The Tallest Room’ on 22 March, via groundbreaking new label imprint Clue Records / EMI North. Founded on seven years of friendship through times thick and thin and a shared obsession with exploring the fuzziest, far-out corners of 90’s guitar music, Leeds-based sextet Van Houten is ready to show us what they’ve been busy cooking up…  ‘The Tallest Room’ is worth the wait. Having enlisted the ears and ideas of producer Alex Greaves (bdrmm, Working Men’s Club, Bloc Party), the album is a captivating ..read more
