I've been experimenting with copepod culturing. Nothing fancy just Tigriopus. I've been conducting experiments with spirulina. I have a culture outside using the banana skin method which is really productive through the warmer months. Thought I'd just throw some bits of banana skin into my indoor spirulina fed pods to see what happened. Anyway the water turned a nice green and I now have a dense culture of rotifers along with the pods. I wasn't expecting it to be honest and its quite nice to... Read more ..read more

I'm not going to hold my breath as I know these pods have been extremly scarce in the u.k for years now. I just thought it was worth a shot to see if there is anyone culturing them atm? I'm probably going to import some anyway if not so would also appreciate some advice on that too ..read more

I've been getting a bit bored lately with my tank, I don't have room to upgrade and my little system has been full for a while. And then the clownfish laid eggs a few months ago... This peaked my interest. Unfortunately my blenny (I suspect) was helping himself to caviar in the night and not many hatched. The clownfish then became ultra aggressive with every fish and had to be moved into their own space so they are currently living in my QT tank. A couple of weeks ago they began spawning... Not sure where to post this but no one in my friendship group or family as excited as me but I just spent 2 hours sitting in the dark waiting for the eggs to hatch and I saw 1 straggler just before I was about to leave. Video of the sole fish assuming the rest will hatch tonight it’s the 9th night I believe. Unfortunately don’t have any rotifiers as I haven’t had any time to get them I’ve ordered some on Friday but no clue when it’s going to come. Just wanted to see how difficult it is to... Hey Guys, I have dosed some phyto and its sent my PO4 from 0.07 to 0.54. I think it might be my own fault though, I'll explain and see what you think? I had a nannochloropsis Oculata (first time i've cultured this strain) starter Culture and put 20ml of this into my DT over 2 days. The rest went into a 2L setup. I used a F2 fertilizer. I added 2 mil. By day 2 it wasn't particularly colouring up so I added a further 1ml. Anyway by day 4 it was the same colour as the original... Read more ..read more

Hey guys I'm looking for some help here. At the end of January I bought a very healthy clown from 1 of my LFS's, it was very unusual looking which is what attracted me to it. The store didn't know what kind it was but turned out to be a Black Photon. A couple of weeks later at my usual LFS they had the most amazing clown which I also just had to have. Again its markings were very unusual, a bit like a Snow Storm except it has 2 orange pectoral fins, absolute stunner. This 1 I have since... Read more ..read more

A while ago I had a pair of Firecracker Gobies (Trimma rubromaculatum) that spawned regularly in my nano. I am not aware of anyone successfully rearing the fry. I never got to that stage either. I just wanted to share my videos I captured of them, enjoy! Youtube video of Fiercracker Goby guarding its eggs. Close-up video of the same fish ..read more

So I thought I would start a useful "How To" based on my experience and success with breeding my frostbite clownfish. "Clownfish Fry are notoriously difficult and tempremental to rear. The slightest difference in temperature or water quality can have drastic consequences on the fry" The above is a phrase that I have heard many times. However.... they are not as difficult as everyone thinks. And I hope this guide helps everyone see that It is also a common... Read more ..read more
