Is there a marine fish that would make a good easily bred fish as a feeder for predator species? I would love to have another Lion. Mine did fantastic as long as I could get live food. Then I couldn't and that ended that. My 3 lions would not touch dead food ..read more

Green Water Killed Clownfish Fry
Reef Central Forum » Fish Breeding

I added some green water trying to tint the water for newly hatched clown fry. All the fry died very shortly after the green water added. I am suspecting my phyto culture is bad. I started the phyto culture but it would only turn to the level of green like an green apple and won't turn any darker, even if I added more fertilizer. Any one have experience like this? I am wondering if I should throw away the green water and get a new one from different source ..read more

Baby Pyjama Cardinalfish

Hey guys! I thought I'd write this as an informal guide to raising baby pyjamas. This is the third batch my pyjamas have had (first batch died of starvation, and I didn't bother trying to raise the second batch since we didn't have enough rotifers yet). The first batch died because my dad wouldn't let us culture rotifers until our fish actually had eggs, and as we all know it's too late by that point. Anyways, the rotifers have been set up since February 8 or so (it's a mix of type S and L)... Read more ..read more

I am going to try raising a batch from this pair. They laid eggs today 12/18 at 4PM so I am going to use this thread to track progress. Here's a video of the mom and dad. Mom is a Bali Aq Picasso and dad is an ORA picasso. For my breeding setup, it's just a standard 10g tank, air pump, and heater. I have 2 rotifer cultures going and have some Reed Rotigreen Omega. I also have a batch of Doni/Onyx picassos going in a growout tank. The growout system is just a 20g... Read more ..read more

Maroon clown babies on edge of glass

Hi all. My gold strip maroon clowns eggs have just hatched in my hatch tank and I'm happy to say that there are loads! (i have been trying for about 18 months with varying success.) I have noticed that the larvae are hanging around the edges of the tank and staying up against the sides. They did this even before I introduced the rotifers to feed on. A) Is this normal? B) Is it ok for them to be doing this? C) If not, how can I get them away from the edges? I'm kinda worried that if... Read more ..read more

We're thrilled to see India's government empowering their people in the Lakshadweep Islands, many of them women, to conduct aquaculture of marine aquarium fish and inverts--an activity that provides for their livelihoods, and makes sustainable use of the country's own genetic resources. Check out this story in The Hindu ..read more

My Deepwater Cave Basslet is pregnant

Hi there. I am pretty convinced my Deepwater Cave Basslets have taken a shot at captive breeding, which could be a first from what I have/haven't read. If someone could confirm this would be great (pic attached). My plan to collect the larvae is to hopefully be home at the moment she releases them into the water column, and both catch with shrimp net and suction with small Python syphon into isolation tank. They would be in a 5g with a bio sponge filter aerating. Add live copepods. Try phyto... Read more ..read more
