If it doesnt fit into a back pack then you dont need it... maybe look into making a cart out of one of the bunnings style garden carts, fits an esky and you can mount rod holders on the side to carry your rods. Pneumatic tyres also good for the sand Statistics: Posted by canned_tuna — Wed Nov 09, 2022 4:52 am ..read more

If you're casting baits 12-14 is good. If you're livebaiting you can go as low at 8. Thanks mate. Appreciate it Statistics: Posted by Don Fisher — Sat Aug 14, 2021 8:52 am ..read more

Being an overhead reel you may want to make sure that you buy an overhead rod. The parabolic curve is totally wrong if you are using a standard spin reel surf rod with an OH reel. They tend to use grapnel sinkers in SA, anything from 4 ounce upwards, but I have had success with your standard star sinkers Statistics: Posted by canned_tuna — Sat Feb 18, 2023 6:50 am ..read more

Rod length for surf fishing is very subjective as it depends on a number of factors as the differences in rods at the longer lengths is quite wide. I use high end English and European rods for the majority of my surf fishing and find rod around the 13' to 14 foot length afford the most versatility along with user ease. Remember one thing when using the longer rods m slow down the cast and let the rod load fully into the butt section and you will get better distances with suitable leads. Penn, Shimano and Daiwa all have lower end 12' surf rods that retail for $100 or less The rod you buy should have it's optimal casting weight printed on it. I usually use sinkers near the top of that range - when you get it set up, buy a few cheap sinkers of different sizes and try casting with each one. You'll feel when it's right. Too light, and it doesn't load up the rod enough to get any distance. Too heavy, and it loads up the rod too much and just kind of lobs the bait instead of flicking it. When you feel the weight is right, get a few different styles of sinkers in that weight. Bomb si ..read more

make a sling for your rods out of a bit of rope with a uni knot at each end, you can carry a couple of those metal rod holders that way too carry an esky or a fish bag with a frozen 1.25l bottle of water to keep any fish you keep cool have a backpack with your bait, rod bells, spare leader, spare rod bells, hooks, more rod bells, sinkers, extra rod bells etc find some short bald pom wearing hi vis and set up next to him Statistics: Posted by 4liters — Wed Nov 09, 2022 10:47 am ..read more

mate, don't stop replaying lol. I had a go at casting slugs but to be honest I was tired and just went back to bait fishing. I used to like to have a big rod out with bait and a smaller one just walking along the gutter and throwing slugs. If the surf isn't too rough then you could use the lighter rod. I used to be an avid surf fisho till I got sick of all the sand, salt, weeds and currents that can wreck a good days fishing Statistics: Posted by Seniorfisho — Wed Nov 09, 2022 3:26 am ..read more
