Left San Antonio at about 5:20 pm Thursday boogied on down to check in the hotel and grabbed some shrimp and cut mullet from clems and hit the sand went about 2 miles south of bob hall pier. Casted out bait rods and grabbed the cast net to catch some mullet swimming in the wade gut, caught one about 11” and sent it out. After 5 hours of nothing but hard heads and jizz kitty’s we called it a night with live mullet never even being touched. Friday we wake up about 10am and head down to pins... I'm fairly new to surf fishing and going to be at Matagorda Beach and Matagorda Bay next week with my family. Last year we had some luck with whiting, catfish, sharks and and redfish. Trying again this year and just wondering what people look for when cruising the Beach or just looking for a spot, to me the beach all looks the same and I just dont know where to start or what to look for. I'd love to get into some redfish, pompano, specks, sheeps head or any good fishing in the area but I... New to salt... Matagorda Beach and Matagorda Bay ..read more

Do you use baitcasters?

I have not been surf fishing for long but I am using spinners since that's what I've always used for other fishing. But I keep seeing posts about baitcasters and I am not sure how you would even use it. When you cast, can the spool keep spinning and make a huge birds nest? Do you have to use your thumb on the spool to stop that? Can you cast as far with a baitcaster? The advantage I see is they won't have line twisting. But all the videos I've seen of people surf fishing, they are using... Do you use baitcasters ..read more

Looking to get a shark fishing rod rack for my truck, does anyone have a recommendation for someone to build a custom shark fishing rock rack like the one pictured below. That’s 2 separate holders, but just looking for 1 that I could be bolted onto my bed rails and removed when not using. Anyone have a good aluminum guy? Thanks Kolby ..read more

Hey guys I will be coming down for vacation the second week of March and am looking for fishing recommendations. My fiance and I came down last July and had a ton of success fishing for bluefish and spanish off the east Jetties at Perdidio Pass. We used many of these bluefish as bait to catch a few sharks out of Fort Morgan. It was an absolute blast; for someone from the Midwest, it was the most exciting fishing I have ever done. However, we are not sure that these same styles of fishing... March Trip Gulf Shores/ Fort Morgan / Orange Beach ..read more

For those who haven't moved to the other site yet, we are having a gathering on the beach tomorrow. I'm cooking brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and chicken. We will be on the beach across from the east barge landing. We will also be drinking beer, fishing, and playing horse shoes and washers. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk ..read more

Hello all, new to the board. Didn't find a "new member" or "introductions" forum. I plan to spend part of next week down in in the CC area. I hope to do a little surfcasting, after a 45 year hiatus. During the f*&^%n lockdown, I bought a couple of rods, reels, line, lures, etc. Finally I have time to throw something in the water. I have a brand new 4WD pickup, but do NOT want to try driving on the sand just yet. I'm a worrier by nature, and I badly need this vacation to be stress-free... surfcasting spots in the Corpus area ..read more

I wanted to get a thread started to see the rod diversity. My personal surf gear has been cut back in length over the years but will likely have a couple 10ft rods back in the arsenal soon. My goto: 2 - Calstar T550 2 - Sea Magic 9ft XH Meat Stick (no idea of the model numbers) Occasionally a Lamiglas L6M at it’s full 13’6 ..read more

Padre Island surf was hot this weekend. I drove to Mansfield Pass Friday morning. I had heard reports of jack crevalle moving close in during the early morning, but didn't see any. 1-2 ft waves, excellent water clarity, the first and second gut were packed with finger mullet headed south. The redfish were crushing the mullet. I returned Sunday morning, this time only driving to mi 6. The surf was rough, 4-5 ft waves crashing on the sand bars and the tide was rapidly dropping. Water... Where to buy shark fishing weights and leaders

Hi Guys. I used to be big into shark fishing. I've pretty much quit since I had kids. I'm going on a trip to Florida in a few weeks with the inlaws and was hoping to run a few lines while i'm there. I've still got just about all of my gear, but I gave away my leaders and weights. I was thinking about ordering some leaders from Spartan Tackle, but didn't see weights on their website. Catch Sharks has weights and leaders, but they are really expensive. Does anyone know where I can get some... Where to buy shark fishing weights and leaders ..read more
