I wrote a thread in the striped bass forum the other day concerning broken guides on fishing rods. I thought it a good topic as most rod repairs I see in my shop are in fact broken guides or tops. The ceramic rings either crack, or pop out of the framework. I noticed a post here about "rod care" and saw that most who responded applied various waxes, lubricants, and polishes hoping to prevent corrision. While fishing yesterday I noticed that the top eye of my new rod is missing the inner "plastic" ring. I checked the eye, and the "metal" part didn't seem worn or scratched. I continued to use it and did not notice any abrasions. Is there an easy fix for this? Or do I have to replace the whole guide? Has anyone tried a Saltwater Alabama rig in the surf before? If so, how have you tried to use it and how have you done? Tried Strathmere Beach on incoming tide. The water was pretty flat, with not much wave action at all. Was using salted clams. No hits at all ..read more

Fished in a tournament in LBI last Saturday 10/14/2023 and the wash was full of Herring. Both morning and afternoon sessions. No predators on them. There were some Dolphins well past the bar 150-200 yards out. Fishing was slow although I did see a few short Flounder caught and released. I guess the little ones are moving out to the front beaches. Hopefully we can revive this Surf Fishing Forum with some fresh information ..read more
