We booked our trip more than a year ago. One of the featured excursions was a trip on The Glacier Express glass-domed train through the Alps. The week before we traveled, we got a short email stating that they weren't able to get tickets for the train and they were transporting us a different way. Turns out, they put us on a regular train and a very long bus ride. AND, as a special treat, we got a tour of the basement of a cheese factory. Day 7 - a beautiful day. Our departure from St. Moritz was not early - 8:15 luggage and 9:15 departure (depends on train reservations). Glacier Express train ride to Andermatt, where our bus picked us up and drove to Interlaken. The train ride was not quite 5 hours. I enjoyed it - lovely views, a couple of places where you could step off to stretch your legs or take pictures. Included beverage (coffee, tea, etc) and surprisingly good lunch with wine. We took this excellent tour in mid-September. Mike Henderson's blog of his tour provides a lot of detail, but thought I would offer our experiences as well. We were a couple of days later than Mike's tour. It was a great trip, led by a very good, energetic tour director. We flew Swiss Air from Chicago to Geneva to Lausanne, and United Zurich to Chicago. Very smooth travel - no delays. We arrived mid-afternoon, one day before commencement of the tour. Easy check-in, excellent hotel, beautiful room with balcony and Lake view.
