My sister left for college this fall, and left a halfway started planted tank behind. She said to just leave it in her room, but I checked on it and the plants look pretty rough. There is just two types of plants, Monte Carlo, and the other one I can’t remember it’s name but it looks to be a type of grass. Basically they arn’t rooted very well and keep floating, and are turning very white. There is no water in the tank right now because that’s how my sister left it, and when I tried to add... Hi my tank has been running now for 2 months. It is well planted with a small number of fish. The plants are mainly fast growing with three Amazon Swords. The algae problem that I had has mostly disappeared. The swords have had a black hair algae on a few leaves which I have cut off. That was about 4 days ago. The substrate is an aquatic soil. I am adding a liquid fert every other day. Would a fert Tab placed into the soil be of any benefit. Thanks ..read more

Hi I've recently added some new draft wood to my aquarium, and I followed the necessary steps to ensure it was clean and ready for the tank. I boiled it in a little bit of salt. And then soaked it for 2-3days to make sure it didn't float. However I have this white fluffy mold looking substance growing off pieces of the wood. Is this good or bad ? Would it go away naturally or would I have to remove it and clean it ? If anyone knows I'd really appreciate some advice... White mold ..read more

I have set up my 240L tank with aquatic substrate, plants, rock and wood. CO2 is available. The filter is external with heater. The tank has been running for 3 days and so far, all seems OK (TOUCHING A LOT OF WOOD). I am doing a 25% water change for the first week. No fish have been added. Probably in the New Year. I have read a lot about plant ferts and I am now pretty confused. I have purchased a bottle of ferts to get me started as and when needed. I also purchased: Plantex CSM+B, KNO3... Hey Team, Any help on the below would be greatly appreciated. Just bought a 29-gallon tank (aqua culture) and I am just about to finish the fabled nitrogen cycle, without the fish in the tank. I am most likely going to have Betta's in the tank, however, I am unsure what plants I should include. I am tempted by floating plants, as I have read they are easy to maintain. Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on this? Thank you ..read more
