PSA subwoofers. I talked with Tom

So I continue to read reviews and threads about subwoofers. After I made my last thread I started looking at PSA. The FV18 from Rythmik is just to talk for my space (I cant lay it down because then it becomes to wide for my space.) The FV15hp is the biggest sub that I can get from them. I also have read tons of threads about the best bang for the buck subwoofers out there made by HSU. It seems like the HSU subs and Rythmik subs have alot in common (amp rating, size of overall cabinet... PSA subwoofers. I talked with Tom ..read more

Magnepan 3.6/R speakers with a frequency response: 34Hz-40kHz, ±3dB. Small room, 16Lx13Wx7H. Room is open at the back. I have a McIntosh MEN220 unit with RoomPerfect room correction system, which has an active crossover function that I would like to use with the subwoofer. Magnepans are an amazing speaker, but I would very much like that last bit of the finishing touch on the very low end. I've read conflicting opinions whether one or two subwoofers would be better. Lastly, my subwoofer... Please recommend a subwoofer(s) for my 2-channel music-only system ..read more

Is there an easy proportional way to defend high-cost sub purchases?

I have struggled with this question. Seems like a $2300 monoprice can exceed some CEA-2010 SPL/Hz lower measurements of a 10K Perlisten or 8k+ Funk/Harbottle. Cost becomes a predictable denominator for some people for dollars spent/spl. So what are our comparative metrics? Seems to lead to details for the CEA-2010 standard and its tolerance for high distortion percentages at lower frequencies (~30+%) and then discerning the differences in long term compression tests. But those details... Is there an easy proportional way to defend high-cost sub purchases ..read more

Subwoofer(s) on the cheap.

Some things about me; I hate paying retail unless there is a darn good reason. I have built subs in the past, and I will if I need to. I enjoy buying used. Most, not all, of my audio gear came from Craigslist, OfferUp and FB Marketplace. I would like to replace two home built 10" Dayton Titanic sealed subs driven by a Crown 2002XTI amplifier with DSP. What I am looking for is something to fill in the 16hz-40hz range. in my HT/2 channel system. I have other subs... Subwoofer(s) on the cheap ..read more

REL Acoustics HT/1510 Predator II Subwoofer Review

It seems odd that Audioholics has never come around to review anything from the subwoofer manufacturer REL Acoustics. They have been a big name in subwoofers for at least as long as Audioholics has existed. Today, that will thankfully change since we finally have a REL subwoofer in-house for our evaluation. The model in question is the HT/1510 Predator II, a larger sealed sub with a 15” driver and a 1,000-watt... REL Acoustics HT/1510 Predator II Subwoofer Review ..read more

Is there a way to set subwoofer volume limit independently of other channel volume limit?

Hi all, I have a 7.1.4 set up with a denon x3800h and underestimated how far the bass travels to the next apartment. Is there a way to limit subwoofer volume differently then the rest of the speaker? Example: if I have a volume limit of 80DB on all speakers, would it be possible to limit the subwoofer to 70DB? Maybe with multi eq x or so? so far I have only found ways to reduce subwoofer gain or filter out subbass frequencies via standard audyssey. thanks for your time ..read more
