Hello all, its my first post here, I thought I would joint the party as this place seems to be populated by reasonable and helpful folks. Anyway, I have kept isopods and millipedes for a while, with decent success but wanted to try something a little different........ .......so the story is that I have got myself a few (4) Sphaerotherium sp. (probably gigateum), reportedly from South Africa. There's just so little info out there. It seems quite a few folks have tried keeping the madagascan giant emerald pill millipedes, with universal failure, with them dying within a few months at the most, u ..read more

Hey guys. I was wondering what interesting inverts are found in NJ. I was hoping to catch and breed some local inverts this spring and summer, and your input would be really helpful. The species don't have to already be established in the hobby. I could bring something new to the community. Thanks ..read more

Hey guys. I was wondering what are some good sites/sellers to get orthopterans from in the us. Aside from feeders, I've only seen them occasionally at expos, from norcalgrasshoppers, roach crossing, bic, or from importers. I'm considering getting some in the future. Thanks everyone!     ..read more

My Buthidae

I really love Palearctic Buthidae. These are all species of the Palearctic that live in arid conditions. I generally like animals and plants from arid places (xerophiles). Now I am actively collecting species of desert Buthidae and here is what I already have in my collection at the moment: Androctonus amoreuxi (Audouin, 1826) 1.1.0 Egypt These scorpions came to me in the fall from Egypt. The male is very active, but does not react to the female in any way, ignoring her. The female drives him away. Apparently she is already fertilized in nature. Androctonus australis australis (Linnaeus, 1758 ..read more

A couple questions here: 1) Any idea where I can find micro-mesh/micro-screen locally (NC) or buy small quantities online?  2) The best way to keep Mezium spp. How? I have them in a container that needs more ventilation (hence the previous question) and the food molds rapidly. There's only a few at the moment but hoping the colony will expand. Would use regular screen but I think they could get through? They are currently on very dry peat moss and egg crate. Poking small holes in the container has resulted in busted plastic.  Thank you for your help.  ..read more
