Hello, I would like to ask a question and seek your advice regarding work life. I want to work remotely in the future so that I can have a more stress-free experience. For that reason, I am planning to pursue a major in computer science. However, I have no idea about computer science and job opportunities in this field. Are there any individuals who work remotely or have a job related to computer science? Could you share your experiences with me? What must I do and follow to achieve my goals? Thank you submitted by /u/kamcici12345 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Barrier ring “melting” after a just a day

I just got ileostomy surgery four days ago and have been doing well. However, I noticed my barrier ring (Eakin brand) has been “melting” after just the first day of applying a new bag, which has been twice now. I got a loop ileostomy and the barrier ring seems to be starting to melt higher up on the lower part of my stoma (the non-output hole) and I’m worried it’ll either cover that or end up leaking. I’m not sure if it’s because I sweat at night and my body heat melts it more, or if it’s an application issue. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what have you done to prevent ..read more

Getting more nervous for surgery….spare positivity?

I made the mistake of joining a fb ostomy group, and it was the most stressful and upsetting thing I’ve read so far. I’m 24, have severe medication resistant UC since I was 14, whole thing is precancerous, etc etc. I’m scheduled for total proctocolectomy w ileostomy on May 6th. I’ve been looking so forward to it, but after reading the horror stories on fb, I’m petrified again. Mostly I’m afraid of not living through the surgery, which I know is deeply unlikely- I’m surprisingly healthy for how bad my colon is. I don’t really know what I’m looking for here- reassurance? Positivity? Just valida ..read more

What all do we need as far as supplies (and I don’t mean the tiny little list wound care gives you.) Any tips or tricks that haven’t been posted out lately, would be really helpful. TIA submitted by /u/Barflyswatter [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Mysterious symptoms - similar to obstruction but not?

Hey all! Just to preface, I am following up with my GI and have visited the ER twice already for this issue, but have had no real answers as of yet and am feeling confused and afraid. I have had an ileostomy for 15 years and my health has been stable aside from a big obstruction every couple years. For the past few months I have been experiencing a lot of bloating after eating. Then, around a month ago I suddenly developed a loss of appetite and every time I ate I would have early satiety and feel very nauseated. A few days after this started, I began to experience episodes of intense crampin ..read more

Diversion Colitis

Hi everyone! If you had ulcerative colitis prior to having a colectomy, did you develop diversion colitis afterwards? I have been diverted since December, and my ileostomy reversal is coming up, however, the diversion colitis has gotten bad. It’s to the point where it hurts, and I can’t ignore the urgency to go release the bloody mucus. My surgeon is aware and is not too concerned. He said he will do pouchoscopy before he reverses the stoma. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? Thank you! submitted by /u/Gullible-Arm2702 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Has anyone been prescribed metronidazole for excessive mucus?

Some context: I have a loop ileostomy due to motility issues. I have had ongoing issues with pain (which is apparently in the wrong place so either an extremely coincidental unrelated issue or psychosomatic(he said I'm not crazy but I wasn't born yesterday, impossible pain is always psychological and I'm gonna ask my gp for a referral to a psychologist)) coinciding with passing a lot of mucus from my butt. Apparently the mucus at least could be due to a bacterial overgrowth/imbalance in my defunct colon and I've been prescribed antibiotics for this. But I cannot find anything about this onlin ..read more
