We'll be entering Canada at St. Stephens, NB next week for our Canadian Maritimes tour. Once the tour ends at PEI, we're planning to drive down to visit Quebec and the Canadian Falls at Niagara. We're thinking of re-entering at Buffalo, NY via the Peace Bridge crossing. I've heard that it's a busy crossing though and wondering if one of the other two bridges into Niagara Falls, NY might be a better choice? What say you veteran border crossers? Do you have a favorite re-entry from Niagara, ON? It's our first time in the area and could use a little advice. Thanks ..read more

Canada's new carbon tax

Just a note about fuel prices in Canada has started adding a carbon tax to all petroleum products this year. I believe I heard it was about 35 or 40 percent on top of other highway taxes. My fuel tank is 150 US gallons, I refuel right around the half full point, usually cost is about $215.00 here in Montana,1 card swipe. In Canada the fuel is priced per liter was typically $1.72 to $1.77, twice I had to double swipe to get enough fuel to fill up. One time total was $400.00 and second was $450.00, eye watering amounts! Just a heads up, going to Alaska via Canada will be more expensive than last ..read more

About 2 weeks ago we crossed into Canada at Sweet grass MT,nice Canada officer asked a few simple questions and off we went. Visited Banff, the icefields and Jasper parks ,lot of fun. Due to several systems failures we decided to head back as unable to locate local RV shops. When we crossed back @ Sweet grass into USA, we told them we had fresh vegetables, eggs, etc so where directed to pull to side and park and come inside. Lady agent had us complete a disclosure of all items of food and sign it. She went out to rig,we had to wait inside lobby. She came back with the eggs,an apple, garlic, some ho ..read more

Hi there iRV2 members ; I'm starting this thread to accumulate , links to all North American Government sites and maybe a few others ; where links to information about what , can and can't be taken across the borders , whether traveling into a neighboring country or returning to your own. What to expect if you stay too long . I know many of you have posted these links often and when they are added here , I'll be asking administration to make this thread a sticky at the top of this forum's thread list ; with a heading that I hope will show up any time a member uses the search function. Experience / Feedback driving Canada BC Rockies during winter

The family is planning a winter (last 2 weeks of December) trip to Jasper, AB starting with entry to BC in Vancouver/Abbotsford. Both the Class C (E450 chassis) and toad (Jeep Grand Cherokee) have 3-peak tires all-around. The plan is to take TC/Hwy-1 to Kamloops via Coach Creek; avoiding HW5 between Hope and Kamloops. The Trip Wizard map shows the summits about 2,000' on Hwy 1 vs 4,000' on Hwy 5. BC also extends winter driving/snow tires an extra month on Hwy 5. We have chains for the Jeep and will pick up a pair for the outside duals on the Thor. Chains are intended as an "oh, crud", not a ..read more
