Hello again!
Even though we’re well into January, since this is my first newsletter of the new year, Happy New Year to you and I hope you’re enjoying 2024 so far.
Even though I’m in the later stages of recovery from my hysterectomy*, I’m still slowly coming back to podcast education and mentoring as time and energy allows.
While taking time off, I began brainstorming ways to restructure my strategy sessions for 2024. I wanted to be able to share a ton of knowledge while also keeping these consulting sessions affordable for Creative Independent Podcasters.
I’d rather see you spend your money on ..read more

Hello again!
Can you believe we're nearing the end of another year? I'm at that stage of December where I'm looking back over 2023 to take stock of what I've done to see what worked in my business (and life, in general) and what didn't.
This was the year I tried incorporating these monthly newsletters into my workflow. And it's been one of the best decisions — thank you for allowing me into your inbox, for writing back, signing up for strategy sessions, buying me coffees, and letting others know about this newsletter!
This was certainly one of my highlights of the last year ?
Another highlight ..read more

When I first started podcast consulting, I was convinced I could provide help to almost anyone in their podcasting journey. But over the years, I've realized that the clients I enjoy working with the most and who tend to seek me out most frequently are Creative Independent Podcasters.
And many of them don't even know they fall into that category — which makes sense, considering when most people hear, "I'm a podcaster," perhaps the idea of a tech bro talking head is the first image that comes to mind.
And while that unfortunate stereotype isn't far off from what some podcasters aspire to be, t ..read more

Hello again!
First off, thank you to everyone who sent their well wishes for my surgery and recovery! It’s going GREAT and I’m feeling EVEN BETTER than I did on some of my worst Adenomyosis flare days ? It meant so much to hear from many of you and really speaks to how supportive the Indie Podcasting space is.
Speaking of which, can I tell you a secret?
“Oh no,” I thought. “Just what I need. Another podcast.”
But that didn’t stop me from opening the app and recording into it whenever I wanted to talk through the fears about my upcoming surgery, share some success stories that were giving me ..read more

One of the first steps I tell new podcasters when they ask “How do I get started?” is to come up with a list of episodes/topics/guests to interview. If they’re unable to do that, there’s a good chance they’ll run out of steam quickly and Podfade— when someone starts a podcast and abandons it for one reason or another (most commonly, it’s because people tend to underestimate the time, money, energy, inspiration, etc. it takes to podcast longterm).
This is fairly common starting advice from podcast mentors, coaches, and consultants.
But what I’ve started including in my recommendations for new ..read more

Hello again!
And Happy Halloween!
It’s been quite a few weeks since the last newsletter! I’ve been trying to send one out every month and usually, I get it out within the first few weeks.
But this month, I found out I’ll be having surgery mid-November and I’ve been scrambling behind the scenes to get ahead for my awesome clients so the newsletter and blog posts have taken a backseat for the time being. (More about my surgery on my Instagram)
If you’ve followed me on Instagram and my personal blog, Emily: Out Loud, for a while, you’ve probably have heard me talk about Adenomyosis, a painful and ..read more

It’s that time of year when podcasting is ramping up again now that summer’s on its way out and I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to get out my fall-scented candles and cozy up to the microphone. As it seems to happen every September, new shows are coming out, favorite shows are returning, and big announcements are coming out in the podcasting space!
One of the biggest news stories lately has been the collaboration between SquadCast and Descript!
If you don’t already know, SquadCast is a web-based platform where podcasters can record their audio and video podcasts easi ..read more

It’s funny the things you save to remember people you’ve lost. When my dad died earlier this year and I helped my stepmom clean out his stuff, I kept his prescription aviator sunglasses and a mostly used bottle of Aqua Velva — I knew I couldn’t toss those two things that distinctly make up my forever mental picture of my dad.
I have them displayed on a shelf by my desk as both a tribute and so I can reach over and unscrew that cologne cap whenever I want to remember what my dad would smell like when he was getting himself hyped up for social interactions.
He was a funny guy and he had a knack ..read more

Welcome to the dog days of summer, which was named for the time in late July when the star Sirius would appear in the sky. The Romans referred to it as "days of the dog star."
Can you tell I'm in full research mode for my book, as I wrote about last month? I feel the need to write the story behind everything I can think of lately. You can also see what I've been up to with my monthly montages I've been doing over on Instagram.

About 11 years ago, I found my first podcasts and I fell in love. I've talked about the story before so I won't go too deep into it, but the short version is when I was moving out during my divorce, and I didn't have cable set up in my new apartment, but I had internet so when it came to entertainment while I was unpacking, I didn't have much else but my phone.
So I opened the newish purple app called iTunes (now Apple Podcasts) and began exploring what was available. I had a friend who listened to podcasts and I thought it was cool that there were these great audio shows available for free ..read more
