I have heard that a plaque or something similar, possibly commemorating the life and career of Tom Aiken is located in Banff, Scotland. He was Scotland's greatest billiard player as far as we know. Can anyone throw some light as to if it still exists and if so exactly where in Banff it can be found ..read more

Reece01compressed.jpgI recently purchased a nice 901 second break Tom Reece from Mike at Old Cues. I was chuffed as I thought I finally had all the Reece 499,135 cues. Then I read about a 692 second break, 1st Feb 1911 (although I am yet to see a pic). I thought for years there was only the 627, 773 and the 901 until a couple of years ago I purchased a 751 needing some love and attention. This makes me think, is there any other second break Reece cues around?? Can anyone help? I would love to see photos of the 692 break cue. Thanks, Graham. I have tried to attach photos but my files are too bi ..read more

Seen as there has been a bit of recent billiards interest on here, thought I'd flag up that the above book is available as a gratis download. You just need to create a free account on https://world-billiards.com/ then go to the Members / Publications tab. It's a great resource, does exactly what it says on the tin ..read more

Antique Ivory Billiard Balls once used by Tom Reece in world record break

I had an elderly aunt die a few weeks ago and when sorting her house out i came across a set of ivory billiard balls. Included with the balls was a small card that states the following: "The Set of Balls used by me in the 499135 break. T. Reece" I understand that this break took place over 5 weeks in 1907. I also have a letter dated 1968 offering these ivories for sale and the receipt indicating these were a legitimate purchase. I was hoping that someone would be able to tell me how much these items are worth. I can send a photo of the balls for your reference if required and they do come ..read more

Hello All, Can someone explain this to me please as it seems to go against all the rules that I know about in billiards.. I am watching the Anna Lynch v Alex Puan Irish World matchplay match, 2nd frame, see time mark at 1:21:30 on youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg6_CW2eAsw Anna pots Alex's yellow into bottom pocket putting alex in hand. She then plays a safety shot leaving the red in baulk and her ball near side cushion. Alex puts his yellow ball in the 'D' as you do and then plays the red in baulk and pots it into the yellow pocket?? Is there some strange matchplay rule that yo ..read more
