What it means to be an APNA agency

We have worked hard over the past eight years to create an agency with integrity to grow the local nanny industry professionally while continuing to learn how to constantly improve. I have always looked up to this organization’s thought leaders, CEOs, and speakers and it’s truly an honor to be asked to sit at the table to listen and learn from them as peers. Our agency went through a lengthy application and interview process and these are some of the best of the best in the industry at vetting, which made it that much more special when our membership was granted. While there are thousands of b ..read more

We believe that it is just as important for a nanny to interview a family as much as it is for a family to ask a nanny questions to ensure the best fit.  These are some questions you might want to go over during an interview with a family while deciding if they are the right fit for you! 1) Tell me a little about your family 2) Are you from here? Do you have family nearby? 3) What brought you here (if not locals)? 4) What do you both do for work? 5) Do you work from home? What percentage of the time? 6) What is your work schedule? How often does that change?  7) Are you willing to g ..read more

When I was a nanny I was always looking for healthy and easy after school snacks to feed the kids that they would enjoy. I found energy ball recipes on Pinterest over the years and let me tell you, I have tried them all! When I saw Mallory Ervin making them on Instagram I knew it would be a great recipe, so I tried her version ASAP with what I had in our cupboard and YUM!  This recipe is inspired by Mallory's friend, Alex White, who has a Nashville company called Milk and Honey Food Co. So my version is an inspired version of an inspired version, but... still delicious!  In o ..read more

Sometimes it's hard as a nanny to stand out from the crowd during interviews. Many families meet with multiple nannies and if your experience level and education are similar to other candidates they are interviewing, how can you set yourself apart? A Nanny Portfolio! A nanny portfolio is typically a binder or folder that gives a visual of the type of nanny you are, your strategy and approach of how you would invest in their children.    What your Nanny Portfolio should include: Cover letter and updated resume - You should include a statement on why you choose to nanny, a bit about ..read more

Why The Best Nannies Use Agencies

photo-1469131792215-9c8aaff71393 Nannies have a variety of resources to find a nanny job. There are sites like Care and Sittercity, word of mouth, local Facebook groups, and agencies. While nannies should utilize any and all resources to secure their next position, it's important to recognize that using an agency is the best option for a nanny. I want to be clear, however, that an agency is only the best option if it is truly a good agency. The benefit of using a good agency ensures the nanny isn't taken advantage of. There are agencies out there that don't advocate for nannies, so it's ..read more

Have you met a nanny or family that you think might be a good fit for you but you would like to spend more time with them? Then your next step is a working interview!  WHAT IS A WORKING INTERVIEW?  A working interview is much like a trial period or shift. Usually, only one or two shifts where to potential new nanny comes into the home to better understand the family dynamic and their needs. The family will get a better idea of who the nanny is and if she will be a good fit for them. We recommend letting the nanny interact with the child/ren, leave the room if you would like, but don ..read more
