COLUMBIA, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – Parents from across the Tri-County and beyond taking a stand at South Carolina’s State House on Tuesday urging law makers to pass a drug induced homicide bill.
A law that could hold drug dealers accountable for selling illegal fentanyl that takes the life of someone.
CN2 Renee O’Neil spent the day in Columbia, speaking to families who say they are not giving up.
There are currently two bills, for drug induced homicide. One is in the Senate and one in the House.
In the bills, an offender convicted must be behind bars not more than 30 years.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CN2 NEWS) – On this Wednesday members of Congress are holding a committee hearing about the Online Child Sexual Exploitation Crisis.
South Carolina State House Representative, Brandon Guffey was invited to attend the hearing in Washington, this after he filed a lawsuit against Meta the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, claiming the social media platforms have intentionally designed addictive algorithms that target children.
Guffey lost his son to suicide after his son Gavin was a victim of sextortion.

The Presidential Primary is the process by which a political party selects its nominee for President of the United States.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – The Iowa Republican caucus recently took place with presidential candidate, Donald Trump coming out on top.
The Caucus is considered one of the first electoral events for the Democratic and Republican parties.
According to Winthrop Political Science professor, Dr. Scott Huffmon, the caucuses are meetings where voters gather to discuss and select candidates for their registered party.
He says that’s a big difference from state’s that have primary elections where registered voters cast ballots at polling places on election day.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – Clinton College honoring the legacy of Dr. King by inviting some big political names to campus.
Those at Clinton College spoke about the importance of teaching the younger generation about Dr. King’s work.
The Keynote speakers included Congressman Hakeem Jeffries the minority leader of the US House of Representatives and Congressman Jim Clyburn from South Carolina.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – The Rock Hill City Council has a new look.
Monday night the council said goodbye to Council Member Kathy Pender who represented Ward 2 for 20 years and prior to that she served many years on the Rock Hill School Board.
Pender was given the key to the city as well as a special poem was read in her honor by Rock Hill’s Pet Laureate.
Pender’s family, friends, and beloved five grandchildren could be seen in the crowd for her final council meeting
