This time, we went there by the morning flight and came back by the evening flight. this blogpost is on that very very short trip. Cox’s Bazar, is not the original name of this area, which is under greater Chittagong area. Till the Moghul invasion in 1666, it was under the rulership of the Arakan kings. Bangladeshi food, however we love it, is not really very popular here in Kolkata. What i mean to say, is original Bangladeshi food- like the one that we tasted during our recent Bangladesh food trail from Foodka. But, luckily, Himur Heshel is a surprise change from the usual Kyd Street fare- no offence intended. And this blogpost is on the same. Check the location here on Google Map About the place When we shot our Foodka episode there at Himur Heshel, it was a small outlet tucked inside a quaint lane. But recently, it has moved to a much bigger space- a 2 storied building, in fact. Parking is ..read more

Puran Dhaka is one of the oldest parts of Dhaka and is super busy- all the time. And as they say, it has a couple of culinary gems of the city. And despite the heavy traffic and dingy lanes, people flock there to enjoy food from the business capital of Puran dhaka- or old Dhaka. In this blogpost, I’ve tried to talk about few of the eateries, but this post will be updated, definitely, in future. Dhaka was founded, formally, in around 17th century by the Mughals and was considered as one of the financial capitals. But historians say, it has a history of more than a thousand years. It is said th ..read more

It was my first trip to Bangladesh. All my life, I’ve heard folklores about Bangladeshi Hilsa, but hardly anybody could tell me how they cook it or what is the specialty across the border. So, this trip was dedicated to Hilsakahini. But little did I know that I’ll come across another beauty of Dhaka, and all of it due to my Dhaka-specialist friend Kaniska Da. The item is called Bangladeshi Ponir. Yes, it’s ponir and not Paneer. And this blogpost will be on that experience and few other friendly encounters of mine there. I went to Bangladesh on a quest for hilsa. Yes, the fish that is the object of desire for both India and Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi cuisine is hugely different from India, but the basics are so similar. Us, in both countries, take the same … almost the same ingredients and make such different products. The use of onion and garlic in Bangladeshi cuisine is pretty heavy, wherein in Indian cuisine, it is not so. For a typical hilsa experience, I had been to this place called Mawaghat, which is at the banks of river Padma and around 2.5 hours journey from Dhaka. Hotel Long Beach Suites Dhaka, wh ..read more
