McKenna Upset With Decision To Keep Tide Gates Open During Recent Storm

By Adam Swift Ward 1 Councillor Joanne McKenna wants to make sure that the DCR shuts the tide gates on Winthrop Parkway during heavy storms such as the recent Nor’easter earlier this month. The DCR did not shut the tide gates during that storm along the parkway, causing massive flooding issues for residents in the Beachmont area, from flooded basements to ruined cars, McKenna said. “People lost their cars, in their basements, they lost their washers, dryers, boilers,” said McKenna. “Some people had three feet of water, some people had two-and-a-half feet of water. Rescheduled Marathon Daffodil Dash at Suffolk Downs The third annual Marathon Daffodil Dash will take place this Sunday, April 28, from 10am – 1pm at Suffolk Downs. Participants will meet at the historic finish line for a fun run based on their age group. Registration is open but spots are limited. The Revere License Commission (RLC) held its regular monthly meeting last Wednesday, April 17, in the City Council Chamber. RHS Girls Track Improves to 3–0 The Revere High girls outdoor track and field team cruised to a 121-11 victory over Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Lynn Classical last week, The win improves coach Racquel MacDonald-Ciambelli’s Lady Patriots to 3-0 on the season. By Melissa Moore-Randall While most teachers were on a warm beach or enjoying a relaxing April vacation, two Revere teachers were participating in their first Boston Marathon.  On Monday, April 15, Amy Rotger and Alex Butler took off from Hopkinton on the 26.2 mile journey as two of the 30,000 estimated runners participating this year.  Amy Rotger, a 5th grade math/science teacher at the A.C. Whelan finished her first marathon in 5:38:39. Her fiance, Gordon Stilwell, ran alongside her the entire race. Jo-Ann (Raphanella) Wood  Truly the Matriarch of her Family Family and friends attended visiting hours on Monday, April 22nd in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St, Revere for Jo-Ann (Raphanella) Wood who died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, April 16th. She was 83 years old.  A funeral service followed the visiting hours in the funeral home and Interment was held privately.
