Photo courtesy of Classical Guitar Magazine Yesterday, Monday November 21, 2022 my CG Computerized Discography (started in 1985) reached 20, 000 recordings. Today, I simply want to honor Agustin Pío Barrios (1885-1944), the famous Paraguayan guitarist, composer and teacher. Barrios started recording 78 rpms as soon as 1913. As a composer, his discography, has reached an incredible 1513 recordings with 87 recordings having Barrios as the only composer represented. His music took the Guitar World by storm and is clearly with us to stay. 10 of his pieces are part of the Guita ..read more

Photo courtesy of Da Vinci Classics Today, Monday February 28, 2022 my CG Computerized Discography (started in 1985) reached 19, 000 recordings. The 19, 000th CD I entered in the database is titled Las Sonatas and introduces Martina Massimino (guitar) and Veronica Ramonda (flute). Their program consists of 3 sonatas and 2 sonatinas originally written for this medium. They present a lavish CD of almost 80 minutes. The Italian label, Da Vinci Classics, has at least 77 recordings involving the guitar and their catalog is growing very fast. Enjoy ! duomassiminoramonda.com ..read more

Photo courtesy of Analekta Last Wednesday March 24th, 2021 my CG Computerized Discography (started in 1985) reached 18, 000 recordings. The 18, 000th CD I entered in the database was Intimate Impressions by Adam Cicchillitti and Steve Cowan, an exciting Canadian guitar duo whose recording is the second published by Analekta.  Following their Canadian recital on Focus, their first CD, they now present us with a mostly French program of transcriptions by Debussy, Mompou (Spain), Ravel and Tailleferre. To these, they add André Jolivet’s Sérénade of 1956, a strong pie ..read more

These covid times find many of us reflecting about the future (of humanity, music, the guitar…), so I was wondering how the younger generation of guitarists were doing, and to which point they are absorbing the legacy of repertoire written specifically for their instrument. So, these posts are concerned by a selection of young guitarists that recently (2019-2020) recorded their first solo album of original music for the guitar. For each artist, I will give a link where one can listen to excerpts of their recent Cds. Enjoy your listening !   For this seventh and last post, I will fini ..read more
