I am a strong advocate for expanded access to healthcare, including mental health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatments.  These issues frequently come before the Assembly Health Committee, where I serve as Vice Chair. This session I introduced Assembly Bill 1944, which seeks to create a safe pathway for patients with rare and ultra-rare diseases seeking investigational treatments designed just for them, despite the usual costly and extremely time-consuming FDA approval process.  I also supported SB 496, which requires health insurers including Medi-Cal to cover biomarker t ..read more

AB 610’s additional exemptions from this wage-hike law come after a carve-out was provided ..read more

A Migrant Shelter in San Diego?
San Diego News Desk
by San Diego News Desk

Earlier this week, I stood as the lone dissenting voice against looking into a Long-Term Migrant Transfer Site and Respite Shelter in San Diego. My decision stems from a deep concern about the implications of supporting such a facility in our community. I refuse to be complicit in perpetuating a failed and broken immigration system. Accommodating the overflow of individuals crossing the border unlawfully is not a sustainable solution. Rather than addressing the root causes of this issue, it only serves to exacerbate the dysfunction within the immigration system. Our nation has established pro ..read more

by Jeff Redondo Jeff Redondo is the Executive Director Chula Vistans for a Better Tomorrow.  I don’t know about you but I usually drive on the 125 freeway at least one a week. Living in the east side of Chula Vista for over seven years it is a convenient way to get around when you need to get from Otay Ranch to San Miguel Ranch in a hurry. Obviously, it doesn’t come without costs. Everytime someone wants to go from Mater Dei Catholic High School to the 54 freeway, it costs $4.50. Annually it costs more than $1,000 to just to drive on a road that should be being maintained by the state. In ..read more

San Diego News Desk

In Chula Vista, a big shock to how much people trust the government came when former City Councilwoman Andrea Cardenas and her brother Jesus admitted to serious theft charges. They were caught misusing money meant to help businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic for their personal use, including Andrea’s campaign for council. They took more than $176,000 that was supposed to help businesses survive the tough times of the pandemic. This shows a big problem with how things are run and makes us question if the Democratic leaders in Chula Vista are watching over things properly. Andrea stepped down ..read more
