The Mission of the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County is to teach the history of the Holocaust and its lessons through education and community outreach. We teach about the dangers of antisemitism, racism, bullying and all manifestations of intolerance. We promote resistance to prejudice and advocate respect for every human being.

Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) Storyteller Dana Arschin has created a video biography of 83 year-old Sands Point, Long Island resident and Holocaust survivor Leo Ullman.
Ullman, a Harvard graduate, wildly successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, and an accomplished athlete who has completed 145 triathlons, is one of the youngest Holocause survivors; he was barely a year old when the Nazis invaded the Netherlands in 1940, and escaped their persecution by hiding with a Christian family in Amsterdam.

Months before the Russian invasion, Long Islander Andrea Bolender went to Ukraine to visit Babi Yar, the ravine outside Kyiv, where on Sept. 29-30, 1941, German Nazis slaughtered 33,771 Jews.
Bolender, who is chair of the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County in Glen Cove, was part of an American delegation to the site.
Among those at the ceremonies was Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, himself a Jew.

Welwyn Preserve, on Crescent Beach Road, was once a little-known gem in Glen Cove, a place many enjoyed for the solitude of a quiet hike on a trail or down to the shore of Long Island Sound. But what previously attracted few became a destination for many over the past year, as people searched for outdoor activities. The influx of visitors, combined with a year of heavy winds, left the preserve in dire need of cleaning up.
