Bruno Fridez, a Swiss enterpeneur-turned-crook used the tumultuous period between 1989-1992 to team up with companies from Central Europe in order to produce cheap electric cars. He left failed business ventures behind. By his own account Bruno Fridez worked at the Swiss railways. In 1986 he started experimenting with solar and electric cars. He thought that an electric-car revolution is coming. In order to offer cheap’n’cheerful electrics he went behind the Iron Curtain to find suitable partners…  Škoda Eltra Škoda Eltra. After a four year hiatus, the Sinaia Concours d’Elegance returned to the Peleș Castle. Our editor was one of the judges. Best of Show: Lamborghini Miura I was first invited to the Sinaia Concours d’Elegance in 2018, then I returned in 2019. So this was my third event. The ingredients did not change – very friendly group of organisers, breathtaking scenery and interesting cars. My only concern is that this is a one-day event, which makes for a very condensed experience. Following World War II, his automobile repair shop had become a motorsports hub. He went to great lengths to have the Croatian Preluš host the first post-war Croatian Championship race on 1 September 1946, as well as the first international race, the Adriatic Grand Prix, which was ..read more

The Škoda Hispano-Suiza 25/100 KS limited series was worldwide one of the most advanced cars of its time. A recently restored example has been shown at the Techno Classica Essen Show last week. With the in-line eight-cylinder Laurin & Klement FF the Mladá Boleslav-based car company entered the automotive top category as early as 1907. From 1924 onwards, the flagship model was the L&K 450, a five-liter six-cylinder with silent valve timing. When a devastating fire hit the carmaker shortly afterwards, negotiations to bring in a strong strategic partner were precipitated in 1924 ..read more

Polish Family Car Experiment: FSO Wars
CE Auto Classic
by Pal Negyesi

The automotive industry in post-war Poland was based mainly on licensed projects or cars shown to the world a few years earlier. However, engineers within Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych tried to develop original projects from time to time. One such example is the FSO War. At the beginning of the 1980s, Poles didn’t have much choice on the domestic market. The licensed Fiat 125p was quite an outdated design (produced since 1968), while the Polonez was considered a fuel-guzzling car, too big and far from the standards applicable in the West. Poles more and more often looked at privately imported ..read more
